About The Position

As a Database Engineer (DBA), you will design, build, automate, and operate mission-critical database platforms in a cloud-first environment. This hands-on engineering role combines database expertise with cloud-native architecture, infrastructure automation, and software development practices to deliver secure, scalable, and highly available platforms. You will work closely with software engineering, SRE, networking, and infrastructure teams to modernize database environments, improve operational efficiency, and support resilient cloud-native solutions. The Database Engineering team builds and supports secure, scalable, and highly available platforms, using database expertise, infrastructure automation, and modern software development practices to improve reliability, performance, and operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • Expert knowledge of MySQL administration, replication, backup and recovery, high availability, and performance tuning.
  • Strong Linux administration and troubleshooting skills across databases, infrastructure, networking, and cloud environments.
  • Ability to develop, test, and maintain production-quality code and automation using Python, Go, Java, C#, PowerShell, Bash, or similar languages.
  • Hands-on experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code, along with Git workflows, GitHub, and GitHub Actions.
  • Experience managing databases in cloud environments.
  • Working knowledge of SRE practices, including SLOs, observability, incident management, postmortems, and reducing manual operational work through automation.
  • Hands-on experience with AI-assisted engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot CLI, Copilot app, or Copilot in VS Code, including the ability to review and validate AI-generated output.
  • Strong networking fundamentals, including DNS, TCP/IP, load balancing, firewalls, SSL/TLS, and virtual networking.

Nice To Haves

  • Microsoft Azure experience.
  • Experience supporting databases on VMs or Kubernetes.
  • Experience building AI-assisted or agent-driven automation workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Design, administer, and optimize enterprise MySQL database platforms, including secure, scalable, and highly available architectures.
  • Engineer and maintain replication, backup and recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery solutions, including regular recovery testing.
  • Develop production-quality code and automation for database provisioning, deployments, upgrades, patching, maintenance, and monitoring.
  • Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, with changes delivered through GitHub and GitHub Actions CI/CD pipelines.
  • Define and track SLOs and implement monitoring, alerting, and dashboards to provide visibility into database health and performance.
  • Lead production incident response, root-cause analysis, and blameless postmortems while implementing preventative solutions and self-service automation.
  • Use GitHub Copilot CLI, Copilot app, and Copilot in VS Code to support coding, troubleshooting, testing, and documentation, while reviewing and validating AI-generated output.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues across databases, Linux, Kubernetes, networking, storage, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Partner with application teams on schema design, query performance, capacity planning, and safe database changes.
  • Lead database modernization initiatives, including migrations from traditional platforms to cloud-native architectures and managed services.
