This role involves leading end-to-end database migration activities, including discovery, assessment, planning, schema conversion, data movement, validation, cutover, rollback planning, and post-migration stabilization. The engineer will assess legacy database platforms, schemas, data volumes, stored procedures, functions, triggers, indexes, interfaces, application dependencies, security controls, and performance requirements. They will develop migration strategies, technical plans, schedules, risk assessments, source-to-target mappings, validation criteria, cutover procedures, rollback procedures, and operational runbooks. A key responsibility is migrating legacy relational databases to approved AWS managed database platforms, such as Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL or Aurora MySQL. The role requires using AWS Database Migration Service, AWS Schema Conversion Tool, native database utilities, and custom scripts to support various migration approaches, including full-load, incremental, change-data-capture, and low-downtime methods. The engineer will also be responsible for converting and remediating database schemas, data types, stored procedures, functions, triggers, sequences, indexes, queries, and proprietary database features for target-platform compatibility. Analyzing and remediating application, ETL, BI, API, and interface dependencies affected by database-platform changes, and coordinating required code and query changes with development teams is crucial. Developing and optimizing SQL queries, views, functions, stored procedures, indexes, and other database objects to support application and reporting requirements, as well as analyzing execution plans, workloads, locks, connections, database metrics, and resource utilization to resolve performance and scalability issues, are also key. Defining database-layer requirements for availability, resiliency, replication, backup, recovery, failover, and performance within the approved IGC cloud architecture is expected. The role includes developing and executing migration-validation and reconciliation procedures to verify data integrity and functional equivalence. Identifying data-quality issues and coordinating remediation activities, developing database and migration automation using SQL, Python, Bash, PowerShell, Liquibase, Flyway, or comparable technologies, and integrating database changes into CI/CD and configuration-management processes are also part of the responsibilities. Implementing database-specific security controls, preparing and maintaining documentation, and providing technical leadership and mentoring to team members are essential. Collaboration with various technical teams and stakeholders is required.
