About The Position

Information Technology Strategies, Inc. is a government IT solutions provider servicing commercial and government initiative in various parts of the United States. We are currently seeking a Senior Database Management Specialist to work for our company. The client agency is the Defense Logistics Agency. This role requires experience in DBMS system analysis and programming, as well as experience with current DBMS technologies and application design using various database management systems, including DBMS internals. The specialist must be capable of providing highly technical expertise and support in the use of DBMS, and be able to evaluate and recommend available DBMS products to support validated user requirements. Responsibilities include defining file organization, indexing methods, and security procedures for specific user applications. The role involves developing, implementing, and maintaining database backup and recovery procedures, ensuring data integrity, security, and recoverability are built into DBMS applications. Support for all Oracle application database implementations in physical/cloud environments is required. The specialist will assist application teams by loading schemas, scripts, and data into Oracle or Microsoft SQL databases, and create and modify primary objects (tables, views, indexes) as necessary. Controlling and monitoring user access to the database, enrolling users, and maintaining system security are key duties. Performance optimization through monthly Oracle Automated Workload Repository (AWR) reports, reviewing reports, and recommending optimizations to improve application performance is essential. The role also includes assisting with performance tuning or troubleshooting application database-related issues, providing consultation and knowledge sharing on database requirements, and interfacing with the J64 DBA infrastructure team. Additionally, the specialist will assist in finding, researching, documenting, and remediating application Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) findings, troubleshooting and resolving database problems, and supporting the upgrade of Oracle to later releases.

Requirements

  • Must possess IT-II security clearance or have a current National Agency Check with Local Agency Check and Credit Check (NACLC).
  • Basic Federal Clearance requirements: U.S. Citizenship, clear criminal history check, no recent or pending bankruptcies.
  • Five (5) years relevant experience.
  • Ability to run Automated Workload Repository (AWR) reports.
  • Must have a Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate.

Responsibilities

  • Define file organization, indexing methods, and security procedures for specific user applications.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain database backup and recovery procedures.
  • Ensure data integrity, security, and recoverability are built into DBMS applications.
  • Support all Oracle application database implementations in physical/cloud environments.

  • Monitor and optimize the performance of the database by running monthly Oracle Automated Workload Repository (AWR) reports, reviewing reports, and recommending database optimizations.
  • Assist with performance tuning or troubleshooting application database-related issues/errors.
  • Provide consultation and knowledge sharing on database requirements for new and existing projects.
  • Assist application team with interfacing with the J64 DBA infrastructure team.
  • Assist in finding, researching, documenting, and remediating application Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) findings.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and resolving database problems.
  • Provide support for the upgrade of Oracle to later releases.
