Senior Database Developer
About The Position
RSM is seeking an experienced Senior Database Developer for a temporary engagement supporting a financial services client. The role will lead a critical initiative to redesign and modernize a legacy system by analyzing its database architecture, translating complex business logic into scalable solutions, and building high-performance, compliant data models. The developer will help deliver robust, auditable, and secure data structures aligned with evolving business needs. The position works with business stakeholders, product owners, and cross-functional Agile teams to define requirements and develop database solutions. It also includes optimizing database performance and integrity, implementing governance and security controls, supporting iterative development, and mentoring team members on data modeling practices. RSM describes most roles as hybrid, with team members aligned to an office and meeting in person when useful for clients, teams, development, or relationship-building; work arrangements may vary based on role requirements and business needs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 8–10 years of experience in SQL Server development/DBA, data modeling, and large-scale database environments; financial services experience is preferred.
- Expertise in data migration, ETL processes, and integration tools such as SSIS.
- Expertise in data analysis, data quality, and data modeling.
- Ability to write and optimize complex stored procedures (SPROCs).
- Expertise in SQL database testing and automation techniques.
- Proven experience developing high-performance, auditable database solutions.
- Experience implementing data controls, security, and regulatory compliance standards.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Highly organized, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Experience working in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments.
- Collaborative mindset and Agile team experience.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with reporting and visualization tools such as SSRS or Tableau.
- Exposure to cloud data platforms such as Snowflake or Databricks.
- Familiarity with Microsoft full-stack technologies such as .NET, C#, ASP.NET, or Web API.
- Experience working within DevSecOps frameworks.
Responsibilities
- Analyze existing database architecture, decipher complex logic, and assess current data models.
- Partner with business stakeholders and product owners to gather requirements and translate them into scalable database solutions.
- Design and develop data models, schemas, and database objects aligned with business needs and performance standards.
- Build and optimize tables, stored procedures (SPROCs), and controls to support data integrity, performance, and auditability.
- Implement data governance controls and ensure compliance with regulatory and internal security requirements.
- Refine database structures through iterative development as requirements evolve.
- Guide and mentor team members on data modeling best practices.
- Collaborate cross-functionally in an Agile environment using tools such as Jira and Confluence.
