About The Position

The Senior Database Administrator supports enterprise database platforms by designing, administering, and optimizing database schemas and infrastructure to meet departmental data and security standards. This role works closely with technical teams to ensure application architectures, data dictionaries, and database environments align with organizational and agency requirements. The position provides operational stability, performance optimization, and technical leadership across multiple database platforms in a complex computing environment.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
15 or more years of combined professional experience in database administration
Advanced experience administering DB2 for z/OS environments
Experience administering SQL Server (2008 R2, 2012) and Oracle (10g and above)
Strong experience with database performance monitoring and tuning
Experience developing and maintaining DBA procedures and documentation
Advanced knowledge of DB2 for z/OS administration, integration, and recovery
Strong understanding of z/OS platform tools, utilities, and monitoring solutions
Solid working knowledge of Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server administration
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
Ability to plan and coordinate complex technical implementations
Strong documentation and quality assurance mindset
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Collaborative, team‑oriented approach with leadership and mentoring capability
Ability to adapt to changing priorities and complex technical environments

Nice To Haves

Experience with integrated database infrastructures in large enterprise or public‑sector environments
Knowledge of financial management or enterprise administrative systems
Experience supporting integrated application environments across multiple platforms
Experience with Azure and modern hybrid environments

Responsibilities

Perform daily operational database administration activities across DB2, SQL Server, Oracle, and GIS platforms
Plan, design, implement, and support database structures to meet system requirements
Monitor database performance and conduct tuning to ensure stability, scalability, and efficiency
Perform SQL code reviews to enforce standards and best practices
Assist in the design, development, and optimization of database schemas and data models
Support enterprise data architecture initiatives across multiple platforms and environments
Ensure database designs comply with departmental data standards and security requirements
Administer and support DB2 for z/OS including catalog maintenance, upgrades, recovery, and performance management
Support z/OS integrated environments and related tools and utilities
Support application integration across mainframe and distributed platforms
Develop and maintain database administration procedures and technical documentation
Support technical implementation planning and infrastructure change management
Assist with training and mentoring other technical staff
Work as part of a cross‑functional DBA and infrastructure team
Support additional database or infrastructure activities as requested
Communicate technical information clearly to technical teams and leadership
