About The Position

TekWissen is recruiting a Senior Database Administrator for its client, which operates the Texas power grid. The role provides advanced database administration across SQL Server, Oracle, and PostgreSQL platforms supporting grid and market systems. It is a hands-on operational delivery position responsible for work across the service lifecycle, complex troubleshooting, escalations, replication management—with particular emphasis on Oracle GoldenGate—monitoring and tuning through Oracle Enterprise Manager, performance optimization, and disaster recovery. The administrator will learn the client’s tools, standards, and change processes quickly, collaborate with application, infrastructure, and compliance teams, and coordinate operational changes within a regulated environment. The assignment is temporary, lasts 12 months, and is hybrid in Taylor, Texas. The position also participates in monthly data center site switchover exercises, maintains operational documentation, manages records and incidents through ServiceNow, coordinates vendor support, contributes to capacity and lifecycle planning, and participates in post-mortems and knowledge transfer.

  • Monitor, analyze, and tune databases using Oracle Enterprise Manager, Oracle AWR and ASH, SQL Server Management Studio, and PostgreSQL monitoring tools; address query performance, resource contention, and capacity constraints.
  • Execute backup, recovery, and disaster-recovery activities, using Rubrik Cloud Data Management and native platform utilities, and ensure recovery procedures meet targets and are tested and validated on schedule.
  • Plan and execute database patching, security updates, and version upgrades through ServiceNow change management, including risk assessment, testing coordination, rollback planning, and post-change validation.
  • Coordinate schema changes with application development teams, including index optimization, deployment sequencing, and environment refreshes.
  • Support database access reviews, least-privilege enforcement, and compliance evidence collection for NERC CIP and SOC audits; provide database-service expertise for compliance assessments.
  • Develop automation using Ansible, Python, shell scripting, PowerShell, PL/SQL, and Transact-SQL, and contribute to Terraform and Git infrastructure-as-code practices where applicable.
  • Learn client tools and processes, share knowledge, and provide technical guidance and cross-training to peers and junior staff.
  • Perform assigned database work during monthly data center site switchover exercises, including failover execution, replication validation, and post-switchover verification.
