This role supports Internal Audit's evaluation of model and artificial intelligence (AI) risk and governance frameworks, assessing their effectiveness in mitigating risks at both individual implementation and aggregate levels. The position involves conducting reviews of complex data science and machine learning models across the organization through audit engagements and technical reviews. The Senior Data Scientist will serve as a subject matter expert for Internal Audit staff, senior management, and business partners on the end-to-end lifecycle management of model development, implementation, ongoing monitoring, regulatory expectations, and industry modeling practices. Work assignments will increase in complexity, requiring moderate supervision with some latitude for independent judgment. This is an intermediate professional role requiring a moderate skill set and proficiency in the discipline. Furthermore, the role provides independent assurance through assessments of complex data science, machine learning, generative AI, and agentic AI capabilities across the organization via audit engagements and technical reviews. This includes evaluating relevant ecosystems by assessing governance frameworks, risk management practices, AI/model lifecycle controls, the effectiveness of oversight activities across the first and second lines of defense, and the inherent complexity, uncertainty, transparency, and operational risks associated with advanced analytical and AI-enabled solutions. The Senior Data Scientist will act as a subject matter expert for Internal Audit staff, senior management, and business partners on the end-to-end lifecycle management of AI/model development, implementation, ongoing monitoring, regulatory expectations, and industry practices. The position involves conducting and managing work assignments of increasing complexity under moderate supervision with some latitude for independent judgment, representing an intermediate professional level with a moderate skill set and proficiency.
