About The Position

The Catalog Data Science Team at Walmart Global Tech is focused on using the latest research in generative AI (GenAI), artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), statistics, deep learning, computer vision and optimization to implement solutions that ensure Walmart’s product catalog is accurate, complete, and optimized for customer experience. Our team tackles complex data science and ML engineering challenges related to product classification, attribute extraction, trust & safety, and catalog optimization, empowering next-generation retail use cases. We take pride in writing solid production code in Python, deploying and supporting model services and pipelines, and pushing the boundaries in latency, throughput, and scalability. As a Senior Data Scientist (Machine Learning Engineer) on the Catalog Data Quality team, you will collaborate with other Data Scientists and ML Engineers to develop, deploy, and scale machine learning models in production to extract attributes from product information. You will play a key role in supporting the attribute extraction platform and catalog data quality solutions — adding capabilities and driving adoption of GenAI-powered solutions to increase the coverage and accuracy of the Walmart's product catalog. The Data Science and ML Engineering community at Walmart Global Tech is active in most of the Hack events, utilizing the petabytes of data at our disposal, to build some of the coolest ideas. All the work we do at Walmart Global Tech will eventually benefit our operations & our associates, helping Customers Save Money to Live Better.

Requirements

  • PhD with >3 years of relevant experience / 4-year bachelor’s degree with > 6 years of experience / Master’s degree with > 4 years of experience.
  • Educational qualifications should be preferably in Computer Science or a strongly quantitative discipline.
  • Demonstrated history of strong hands-on experience in AI/ML modeling
  • Hands-on experience with Generative AI technologies: LLMs, multimodal models, RAG architectures, prompt engineering, and fine-tuning (LoRA/QLoRA)
  • Prior Experience in building GenAI, DL, Vision-based models.
  • Strong foundation in classical ML, deep learning, and modern architectures — CNNs, Transformers, and domain-specific variants
  • Proactive in tracking the latest AI/ML research and translating advancements into production-grade solutions
  • Prior Experience in programming skills across data science, statistical analysis, big data and ML stack
  • Strong communication skills with inclination to high ownership and commitment
  • Proven track record of delivering high-impact AI/ML solutions to Production, including MLOps, Spark, Kubernets, GCP, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deploy AI/ML, NLP, LLM models into production environments with a focus on reliability and scalability.
  • Own the full model lifecycle — from experimentation and offline evaluation through serving, monitoring, and iterative improvement in production.
  • Integrate data science solutions into current business processes.
  • Develop and recommend process standards and best practices in Machine Learning as applicable to the retail industry.
  • Spearhead collaborations with other senior team members and stakeholders, leveraging your data science expertise to drive strategic decision-making and optimize business operations
