About The Position

As a Senior Data Scientist, you will work at the intersection of medical devices, clinical data and real-world evidence. Your work will focus on mining, analyzing and developing models from clinical study and real-world datasets. You will collaborate cross-functionally across R&D (systems, software, firmware and hardware), quality, clinical, regulatory, marketing and commercial teams to translate data-driven insights into actionable product development and therapy recommendations. At Boston Scientific, we value collaboration and synergy. This role follows an on-site work model requiring employees to be in our Valencia, California, office at least four days per week.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in data science, biostatistics, computer science, biomedical engineering or a related field and a minimum of 3 years' experience in medical technology or a related industry; or a bachelor's degree in one of the above fields and a minimum of 5 years' experience in medical technology or a related industry.
  • Experience with technical computing and programming environments, including but not limited to MATLAB, Python, R, AWS, Azure and associated data analysis tools.
  • Strong communication skills with a demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and present to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Proven ability to work independently and lead open-ended initiatives from problem definition through delivery.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 25%.

Nice To Haves

  • Doctorate (Ph.D.) in data science, biostatistics, computer science, biomedical engineering or a related field, with an emphasis on biomedical data science applications.
  • Deep experience working with clinical datasets, including clinical trials, real-world evidence (RWE) and longitudinal patient data.
  • Domain expertise in neuromodulation, neurotechnology or implantable medical devices (e.g., IPG systems).
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex analyses into actionable recommendations that influence product design, clinical strategy or patient outcomes.
  • Strong background in advanced statistical modeling and machine learning, including survival analysis, mixed-effects models, causal inference and predictive modeling.
  • Familiarity with generative AI and medical technology or data-centric AI tools and agents.
  • Familiarity with regulatory environments, including FDA, HIPAA and GCP requirements, and best practices for handling sensitive patient data.

Responsibilities

  • Mine and analyze data from company databases to support product development, marketing and clinical activities, and monitor real-world neuromodulation device usage.
  • Build custom data models, algorithms and analytics tools that leverage the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into neuromodulation therapy usage, effectiveness and optimization.
  • Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data-gathering techniques.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to implement models, monitor outcomes and identify opportunities to leverage data in support of next-generation device design.
  • Participate in intellectual property evaluations and the development of patent applications.
  • Ensure data remains secure and appropriately separated across global cloud environments and data centers, including AWS and Azure regions.
  • Write internal documentation and contribute to professional articles and technical publications, as appropriate.
