Thumbtack helps millions of people confidently care for their homes. Thumbtack is the one app you need to take care of and improve your home — from personalized guidance to AI tools and a best-in-class hiring experience. Every day in every county of the U.S., people turn to Thumbtack to complete urgent repairs, seasonal maintenance and bigger improvements. We help homeowners know which projects to do, when to do them and who to hire from our growing community of 300,000 local service businesses. If making an impact inspires you, join us. Imagine what we’ll build together. About the Data Science Team The Data Science team empowers Thumbtack to use data to guide business decisions. We collaborate with partners across the company to solve the most analytically challenging problems — everything from informing how we set prices across almost a thousand local services categories, to evaluating the impact of a new business model on company performance, to identifying early predictors of high-quality customers. We are a tight-knit, intellectually curious team committed to improving Thumbtack and improving each other. About the role As a data scientist on the experience led growth team, you will partner with a world-class cross-functional team — lifecycle marketers, product managers, engineers, and applied scientists— to build the analytical foundation that powers Thumbtack’s full lifecycle strategy for both homeowners and pros. This is a high-ownership role at the intersection of measurement, product analytics and applied science, where you will shape how Thumbtack thinks about engagement across the entire customer and pro journey. You will be embedded in the Lifecycle Center of Excellence (COE), which is expanding its mandate from homeowner lifecycle to include pro lifecycle. The team’s priorities span personalized contextual communications, in-app lifecycle experiences, and the foundational data infrastructure and tooling needed to deliver these at scale — including end-to-end funnel reporting, self-serve analytics tooling, and measurement frameworks that cover the full lifecycle. You will use your technical leadership to identify opportunities across both homeowner and pro lifecycle, develop a unified view of engagement on the Thumbtack platform, and partner with data engineering to build the data infrastructure that enables the team to move faster. You will be leading long-term initiatives with significant ambiguity, exercising independent judgment, and influencing senior cross-functional partners with the implications of your work.
