About The Position

TechSilo is seeking a Senior Data Scientist / Analytical Lead to support a public university system with more than 60 campuses. The role focuses on making procurement, food, plastics, and emissions data comparable across campuses that use different definitions, formats, and fiscal calendars. The Analytical Lead designs analyses and builds models that turn the data into useful answers, and may also lead day-to-day work as a Task Lead. The position is part-time or consultant work, authorized Task Order by Task Order, typically 10 to 20 hours per week when work is active. There is no guaranteed minimum, and the role will begin only if the contract is awarded. The individual sets their schedule within delivery dates. Finalists may be asked to sign a commitment letter for inclusion in TechSilo's proposal, and their resume may be shared with the client. The role is remote within the United States, in TechSilo's managed environment.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in data science, statistics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 8 years of professional experience in data science or advanced analytics.
  • Hands-on experience with forecasting, statistical analysis, and scenario modeling using Python or R, plus SQL.
  • Experience preparing messy, inconsistent data from multiple sources for analysis.
  • Clear writing for non-technical readers, including candid explanations of limitations and uncertainty.
  • Based in the United States and able to work remotely, part-time, in TechSilo's managed environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with procurement or spend data, sustainability reporting, or emissions accounting, such as GHG Protocol or STARS.
  • Experience working for a university, public agency, or another organization made up of many separate entities.
  • Experience leading several projects at once.
  • Familiarity with Power BI.

Responsibilities

  • Design analyses of procurement, food, plastics, and emissions data collected across campuses with different definitions and formats.
  • Build and validate forecasting, scenario, and benchmarking models, clearly stating each model's horizon, assumptions, and uncertainty.
  • Lead individual Task Orders when assigned by agreeing on scope with the client, setting the approach, tracking hours against estimates, and reporting status.
  • Guide analysts and dashboard developers and review methods before work goes to senior review.
  • Explain what data does and does not show to campus and system leaders who are not data specialists.
  • Use AI-assisted tools only when approved by the client, document their use, and independently verify results.
