Senior Data Product Manager

FanDuel•New York City, NY
•$138,000 - $173,000

About The Position

FanDuel is seeking a Senior Product Manager to own Core Data Infrastructure (CDI) within its centralized Data Products team. CDI is the foundational layer for the company’s data products, including the Databricks lakehouse platform, workflow orchestration, self-service data tooling, and governance and cost controls. The role sets product direction across four engineering verticals: Data Tooling, Databricks Platform, Data Platform Customer Success, and Data Security. Working closely with senior engineering leadership, the Senior Product Manager will shift CDI from an engineering-led backlog to a product-led roadmap with clear priorities, defensible metrics, and measurable adoption. This high-visibility role supports company-wide data reliability, SOX and access-control compliance, data governance, and platform cost management. It contributes to FanDuel’s broader Data Platform strategy and 2026 OKRs. The position also represents CDI in the Unified Data Context and semantic layer strategy and participates in the Product Management community. Employees may be asked to perform other duties as assigned to meet evolving business needs.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience as a Product Manager or Product Owner shipping infrastructure, platform, or developer-tooling products.
  • A proven track record of turning a large technical backlog into a focused, prioritized roadmap.
  • Direct experience with modern lakehouse and orchestration technology such as Databricks and Apache Airflow or equivalent, and with cloud infrastructure; AWS is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of data governance and access-control models such as Unity Catalog, ABAC, or comparable attribute- or role-based access frameworks.
  • Comfort operating in a regulated, compliance-sensitive environment, including SOX and audit controls.
  • Experience owning cost or FinOps workstreams for a data or cloud platform, including building the case for cost governance and driving adoption of cost-estimation or chargeback tooling.
  • A product-led operating style, including comfort challenging engineering-led planning, applying frameworks such as DACI for decision clarity, and focusing on a small number of priorities.
  • Strong stakeholder management across technical partners, including facilitating requirements workshops, negotiating scope with engineering managers, and communicating platform trade-offs to non-technical leadership.
  • SQL proficiency for querying platform usage and cost data.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Engineering, or Business, or equivalent industry experience; preferred.
  • Master’s degree.
  • Experience with semantic layer, metrics-registry, or data-catalog concepts.
  • Knowledge of sports and/or experience working in a heavily regulated industry.

Responsibilities

  • Own the CDI product roadmap end to end, covering the Databricks lakehouse platform, Airflow orchestration, and Stargate self-service data access and provisioning.
  • Translate a large technical backlog into a focused, prioritized roadmap.
  • Partner with engineering leadership across Data Tooling, Databricks Platform, Data Platform Customer Success, and Data Security to establish product-led planning, clear decision ownership using DACI, and dashboard-backed metrics.
  • Drive platform cost governance and FinOps discipline, including ownership of the internal Cost Estimator and advancing cost estimates as a required gate before new infrastructure is provisioned.
  • Own platform data governance, security, and compliance commitments, including SOX controls, ABAC, and Unity Catalog governance, in partnership with Data Security and Legal/Compliance.
  • Lead the self-service vision for Stargate and internal data tooling such as Orbit and Nexus; grow adoption, define success metrics, and reduce reactive support-ticket demand.
  • Represent CDI in the Unified Data Context and semantic layer strategy, partnering with peer Data Product Managers and Central AI on scope, sequencing, and hand-offs.
  • Elicit requirements as clear problem statements, user stories, and acceptance criteria, and maintain a disciplined backlog that engineering managers and stakeholders can plan against.
  • Monitor platform reliability, data quality, blocked-work trends, and adoption, using these signals to continuously reprioritize the roadmap.
  • Participate actively in FanDuel’s Product Management community, sharing best practices and promoting product-led thinking across engineering-led teams.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Company.
