About The Position

WELLSTAR is seeking a Senior Data Migration Specialist to join their Implementations team. This role is crucial for reshaping Canadian healthcare by leveraging technology to reduce administrative burdens on physicians. The Senior Data Migration Specialist will serve as the senior technical resource for EMR data migrations, ensuring accurate, secure, and minimally disruptive transitions from legacy systems to WELLSTAR platforms. The position will initially focus on enterprise migrations for OSCAR Pro and Juno, with potential for broader exposure across WELLSTAR’s clinical platform group. Responsibilities include supporting test migrations, data validation, final migrations, issue resolution, and go-live readiness, in collaboration with implementation team members, vendors, clinic administrators, physicians, and technical customer contacts. This is a full-time remote role open to candidates across Canada, requiring flexibility for occasional work outside standard business hours to accommodate migration windows.

Requirements

  • Strong experience working with EMR, EHR, practice management, healthcare data, or similar data migration environments.
  • Direct EMR migration experience is highly preferred, especially with platforms such as TELUS Health PSS, CHR, Med Access, Avaros, Accuro, Oscar Pro, Juno, or similar Canadian EMR systems.
  • Understanding of how data moves from one system to another, including extraction, transformation, mapping, validation, and final load processes.
  • Ability to balance technical detail with customer timelines, vendor coordination, implementation delivery, and go-live readiness.
  • Comfort getting into systems, understanding back-end structures, manipulating data, and solving complex migration problems.
  • Strong SQL skills.
  • Experience with scripts, tools, or technical processes that support accurate, efficient data movement.
  • Customer-facing confidence, with the ability to communicate clearly with internal teams, vendors, clinic administrators, physicians, and technical customer stakeholders.
  • Experience working with, improving, or building tools that support data migration, validation, reporting, or repeatable data processes.
  • Understanding of the responsibility that comes with handling sensitive information in healthcare or another highly regulated industry.
  • Approach to data access, privacy, validation, documentation, and secure handling with care and sound judgement.
  • Ownership, maturity, and a collaborative approach.
  • Experience mentoring others, supporting junior team members, leading project work, or acting as an escalation point.

  • Experience with Git.
  • Experience with ETL tooling.
  • Experience with cloud platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Help set the technical direction for complex migrations, leading EMR conversions for multi-location practices and enterprise healthcare organizations.
  • Identify risks early, guide data strategy, and serve as the escalation point for migration complexities.
  • Create more scalable migration infrastructure by designing and maintaining scripts, tools, reusable approaches, and validation standards.
  • Focus on building repeatable approaches to reduce manual effort, improve consistency, and increase confidence in the migration lifecycle.
  • Influence product and implementation outcomes by advocating for import capabilities, integrations, and platform improvements.
  • Raise the bar for migration quality and governance by evolving the migration playbook, including mapping standards, validation methods, cutover planning, documentation, and compliance-conscious data handling.
  • Ensure tools and processes support secure, accurate, and auditable migration work aligned with PHI, HIPAA, SOC 2, and internal expectations.
  • Develop capability across the team by mentoring junior and mid-level specialists, supporting stronger technical practices, and helping build a shared standard for migration work.
  • Measure and improve migration performance by tracking and reporting on outcomes such as data accuracy, timeline adherence, rework, and automation gains.
  • Use insights to improve processes, strengthen planning, and help leadership make informed decisions about priorities and capacity.
