Requirements

  • 10+ years in Data Governance, Enterprise Backup, and Hybrid Infrastructure Resiliency.
  • Deep expertise in data governance, data classification, retention, and regulatory compliance
  • Proven ability to translate policy into technical controls
  • Experience with Microsoft Purview (or similar) and ransomware resilience strategies
  • Strong governance and policy mindset
  • Analytical, detail-oriented, and audit-focused
  • Strong documentation, communication, and cross-team influence
  • Extensive hybrid recovery experience
  • Veeam Backup & Replication (mandatory)
  • AvePoint, Commvault (asset)
  • Strong: VMware, Windows/Linux, Azure (required)
  • AWS/GCP (preferred)
  • Experience: Immutable backups, SAN/NAS/object storage, Microsoft 365 protection

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and evolution of enterprise data governance frameworks, policies, and standards.
  • Define and enforce data classification, retention, lifecycle, and defensible deletion practices aligned with regulatory requirements.
  • Establish governance standards for data protection, including backup, recovery, immutability, and ransomware resilience.
  • Implement data ownership and stewardship models, ensuring accountability across business domains.
  • Govern critical data elements and enable enterprise data visibility through cataloging, metadata, and lineage practices.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert, ensuring alignment with Legal, Risk, and Compliance, and maintaining audit-ready governance artifacts.
  • Drive enterprise adoption of data governance and resiliency standards, providing leadership with insights on data risk posture, governance maturity, and resiliency readiness.
  • Translate governance requirements into enforceable technical controls across data protection platforms, ensuring compliance with retention, immutability, and archival standards.
  • Partner with infrastructure and business stakeholders to embed governance into system design and operations, and to classify and prioritize critical data assets.
  • Ensure consistent governance across structured, unstructured, and SaaS data environments.
  • Continuously assess, monitor, and remediate gaps between defined policies and implemented controls.
  • Design and operate enterprise backup, recovery, and cyber-resiliency solutions aligned with governance standards.
  • Optimize backup performance, replication, lifecycle policies, and storage utilization.
  • Implement immutable architectures and ransomware defense strategies.
  • Lead Restore Testing and Recovery Simulations to validate readiness.
  • Serve as escalation lead for backup, recovery, and data integrity issues, including RCA and remediation.
  • Ensure consistent policy application across hybrid environments (on-prem, cloud, SaaS).
  • Align data protection with classification, compliance, and resiliency requirements, eliminating single points of failure.
  • Define enterprise RTO and RPO standards aligned to business criticality and risk tolerance.
  • Establish and govern DR and BCP frameworks, ensuring alignment with data classification and resiliency objectives.
  • Lead disaster recovery exercises, recovery validation, and audit readiness activities.
  • Identify, assess, and remediate gaps in resiliency and recovery capabilities.
  • Ensure DR practices are fully documented, regularly tested, and compliant with enterprise and regulatory requirements.
  • Establish monitoring and reporting for backup performance, policy compliance, and data retention adherence.
  • Drive continuous improvement across performance, capacity planning, and governance enforcement.
  • Leverage automation to standardize operations, strengthen compliance, and enhance reporting consistency.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to IT, Security, and business leadership on data governance and resiliency strategy.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Security, Risk, Legal, Compliance, and Infrastructure teams to drive aligned outcomes.
  • Influence architecture, tooling, and investment decisions related to data protection and governance.
  • Provide strategic guidance on cloud adoption, migrations, and enterprise data protection approaches.
  • Support audit readiness and mentor team members on governance standards and resiliency best practices.
  • Maintain audit-ready documentation (policies, backup procedures, DR plans, runbooks).
  • Ensure alignment with SLAs, OLAs, and compliance frameworks.
  • Support internal and external audits with defensible evidence.
