Senior Data Engineer

FLORANew York, NY
Onsite

About The Position

We build creative tools for the new creative class—an intelligent canvas where the best AI models enable professional craft. We're a team of ~20 who recently closed our Series A, backed by investors like Hanabi Capital, Menlo Ventures, Justin Kan, and Gabe Whaley (founder of MSCHF). Our customers include Pentagram, Lionsgate, and Nike. About the role We're looking for a Senior or Staff Data Engineer who will build FLORA's data function from the ground up. As our first data hire, you will work closely with the CTO and Head of Product to define what data means at this company - how we capture it, store it, analyze it, and turn it into decisions. You'll stand up our warehousing and pipelines, define the metrics that matter (activation moments, power users, engagement quality), and build dashboards and analysis workflows. This is a rare opportunity to shape data infrastructure before patterns become entrenched - our PostHog telemetry is in place, but the broader data model is yours to design. You'll collaborate closely with our growth engineering team: you define the tracking model, they instrument against it. You'll also own vendor evaluation, choosing between ClickHouse vs. Snowflake, selecting BI tooling, and making the infrastructure decisions that will scale with the company.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience in data engineering or analytics engineering; former people managers returning to IC work are strongly encouraged to apply
  • Proven ability to work autonomously - you'll be the first data hire and we're counting on your expertise
  • Deep SQL fluency and strong fundamentals in at least one modern data warehouse (Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, ClickHouse, etc.)
  • Experience building data infrastructure, not just querying it - you've set up pipelines, defined schemas, made tooling decisions
  • Strong product instincts and business curiosity - you know what to measure, what's vanity, and how to frame findings for stakeholders
  • A hypothesis-driven, storytelling approach to data - you ask questions about the business, not just the query
  • Comfort operating in hypergrowth - you can build fast while also building for scale
  • Availability to work in-person 5 days per week (non-negotiable)

Nice To Haves

  • Python proficiency (preferred, though we're flexible on additional languages)
  • TypeScript chops - we're a full-stack TS shop and you'll collaborate closely with engineers
  • Sophisticated PostHog experience (cohorts, funnels, feature flags, warehouse sync)
  • Experience with activation models, conversion rate analysis, and A/B testing
  • Background in SaaS/web app analytics, or adjacent industries such as supply chain or finance
  • Experience with creative tools or product-led growth companies

Responsibilities

  • Audit existing PostHog data, events, and user behaviors
  • Design and implement data models with robust metadata collection
  • Stand up data infrastructure, warehousing and processing pipelines
  • Evaluate and select core technologies (ClickHouse vs. Snowflake, BI tooling)
  • Build executive-level BI dashboards that inform product and growth decisions
