Senior, Data Engineer

TaxRiseIrvine, CA
$150,000 - $175,000Onsite

About The Position

The Senior, Data Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and scaling the data infrastructure that powers reporting, analytics, and operational decision-making across TaxRise. You'll own the architecture of our data pipelines end-to-end — from ingestion through transformation to delivery — with deep hands-on ownership of our Databricks environment on AWS. This role requires someone who can work independently, make sound architectural tradeoffs, and collaborate closely with cross-functional technical teams as our data platform matures. This role is 100% on-site in Irvine, CA. If you're excited to work side-by-side with our team, then you're a perfect fit. If not, we kindly ask you to hold off on applying. Thanks for understanding and happy job hunting!

Requirements

  • 5-8+ years of hands-on data engineering experience in a production environment.
  • Extensive, hands-on experience with Databricks — including Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Workflows, and cluster/job optimization.
  • Strong proficiency in Python, PySpark, and SQL for building and debugging distributed data transformations.
  • Experience with workflow orchestration tools (Airflow or Databricks Workflows).
  • Proven ability to design data models and pipelines that scale with business growth.
  • Strong communication skills — able to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and optimize end-to-end data pipelines using Databricks (Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Workflows) on AWS.
  • Architect scalable ETL/ELT processes that ingest data from Salesforce, Talkdesk, Paylocity, and other core business systems.
  • Own data modeling decisions that support both operational reporting and downstream analytics.
  • Manage and optimize Databricks cluster configuration, compute costs, and job performance.
  • Implement data governance and access controls through Unity Catalog.
  • Build and maintain orchestration workflows (Airflow or Databricks Workflows) for reliable, monitored pipeline execution.
  • Work closely with the Chief Data Officer to shape data architecture strategy and prioritize engineering roadmap.
  • Partner with Salesforce Developers to ensure seamless data flow between Salesforce and the broader data ecosystem.
  • Collaborate with other Data Engineers on shared pipeline standards, code review, and platform consistency.
  • Work alongside Full Stack Developers to support data needs for internal tools and client-facing applications.
