Senior Data Engineer

WagmoNew York, NY

About The Position

Wagmo is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to construct and expand the data infrastructure crucial for Wagmo's expansion. This role involves designing and maintaining efficient pipelines, architecting the data warehouse, and collaborating with various departments including Analytics, Finance, Product, Marketing, and Engineering to ensure the consistent flow of accurate and dependable data throughout the organization. The ideal candidate will possess practical experience with Python, SQL, and contemporary data stack tools, demonstrating a strong commitment to data quality and governance alongside rapid development. This position offers the opportunity to transform vague business requirements into sustainable technical solutions, guide emerging data talent, and establish the foundational data framework necessary for Wagmo's transition from a startup to a scaled enterprise.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in data engineering, ideally at a high-growth SaaS or consumer tech company, with a track record of owning production-grade pipelines and data warehouse solutions
  • Expertise in Python and SQL
  • Deep dbt experience on BigQuery (or similar)
  • Srong Git/CI/CD practices
  • Familiarity with GCP and orchestration tools like Airflow or Fivetran
  • Solid grasp of data warehousing fundamentals: dimensional modeling, ETL/ELT design, query optimization, and data quality frameworks
  • Strong understanding of building data models for AI (we use Claude)
  • Strong communicator who can lead projects, mentor teammates, and work cross-functionally without hand-holding
  • Autonomous and high-ownership; comfortable making calls under ambiguity in a fast-moving environment

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines and data warehouse architecture (BigQuery). Own the infrastructure end-to-end and continuously evolve it as the business grows.
  • Define and implement data models and dbt transformations that are clean, well-tested, and built to last, with strong standards for CI/CD, code review, and documentation.
  • Ensure data quality and reliability across all systems through validation, monitoring, anomaly detection, and clear data contracts and lineage documentation.
  • Partner with Data Analytics, Finance, Product, Marketing, and Engineering to deliver the clean, accessible data they need to make decisions. Translate complex technical concepts clearly for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Lead projects from scoping to delivery, and raise the bar for the team's engineering practices.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive health, vision, and dental coverage
  • HSA/FSA
  • 401(k) retirement planning with employer matching
  • Unlimited paid time off
  • Annual company holidays
  • Additional company-wide recharge days off
  • 12 weeks parental leave for eligible employees
  • Company paid Wagmo pet wellness and insurance plans
  • Regular company-wide events and team gatherings
