About The Position

Spoiler Alert is hiring a Senior Data Engineer to build and own the data infrastructure supporting its marketplace and next phase of growth. The role will help move, model, and make accessible data generated across supplier and buyer transactions, creating a foundation for decision intelligence, AI-powered pricing recommendations, demand matching, and customer-facing analytics. This is a hands-on technical leadership role requiring end-to-end ownership of systems and strong engineering standards. The engineer will work at the intersection of data, product, and platform engineering, partnering closely with Data and Product teams to ensure data is reliable, accessible, and useful for internal decisions and customer applications. The role also calls for appropriate use of AI tools in development and helping establish practices for their use across the team.

Requirements

  • 5–8+ years of data engineering experience; experience at a B2B SaaS, marketplace, or data products company is preferred.
  • Deep hands-on experience across the modern data stack, including pipeline tooling, workflow orchestration, transformations, and BI tools with semantic layers.
  • Strong SQL and data modeling skills, with the ability to create clean, maintainable models.
  • Experience owning data quality end-to-end, including testing and observability frameworks, infrastructure, and tools, with a strong focus on reliability.
  • Ability to integrate AI productively into development workflows, with curiosity and strong opinions held loosely.
  • Ability to take accountability for systems and themes, see work through, and communicate clearly.
  • Ability to collaborate with data analysts, product engineers, and non-technical stakeholders, bringing clarity to ambiguity.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with marketplace or transaction-platform data.
  • Experience with applied AI/ML pipeline work.
  • Experience building customer-facing analytics products.
  • Food and beverage or CPG domain knowledge.
  • Experience integrating LLM tooling into data workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, build, and maintain reliable, scalable infrastructure for moving and transforming marketplace data, using AI coding tools effectively.
  • Own the analytical schema in the data warehouse for internal analytics, aggregate analytics, and customer-facing reporting, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and documentation.
  • Define and enforce data quality standards, including trusted-data criteria, monitoring, and testing.
  • Make and document architectural decisions and tradeoffs, including decisions about data infrastructure that supports AI/ML product applications.
  • Contribute high-quality pipeline logic, SQL, and data models that establish strong examples for other engineers.
  • Conduct meaningful code reviews that improve team patterns and practices.
  • Debug and resolve data issues, and address root causes to prevent recurrence.
  • Contribute to shared support responsibilities and promote reliability across the data platform.
  • Take end-to-end responsibility for data systems and roadmap themes, from design through production and iteration, while communicating tradeoffs and risks.
  • Partner with Product, Data, and Engineering teammates to ensure pipelines, models, and tools support reliable internal and external decision-making.
  • Identify and advocate for data infrastructure investments that benefit Product, Data, Engineering, and Operations teams.
  • Contribute expertise to architecture discussions and Engineering reflection, helping shape technical decisions.

Benefits

  • Remote-first environment, with co-working access for locals in Boston, New York City, and Denver.
  • Competitive salary and stock option packages.
  • Subsidized health, dental, and vision insurance plans.
  • Climate-focused, pre-tax 401(k) and post-tax Roth 401(k) options.
  • 12–16 weeks of paid parental leave and a flexible return to work.
  • 15+ company holidays, including an End of Year Reset Week.
  • 20 vacation days and 10 sick days per year.
  • Focus Fridays with no meetings after 1 p.m. local time.
  • Half-day Summer Fridays.
  • Paid volunteer outings and civic engagement leave.
  • Annual flex funds for remote work needs, learning and development, and socializing with colleagues.
