About The Position

Dr. Berg Nutritionals is a rapidly growing company with significant revenue across multiple e-commerce platforms (Amazon, Shopify, Walmart, TikTok Shop), supported by a large YouTube presence. The company is establishing a unified data platform to support executive reporting, internal operations, customer-facing AI products, and experimentation. This role is for the foundational hire responsible for building and owning this data platform, reporting directly to the CIO. The position offers the autonomy of a founding data engineer with the scale and compensation of a substantial business. The data platform will be critical for driving key business decisions, powering AI products, and supporting commercial initiatives.

Requirements

  • 8–12+ years in data engineering.
  • At least 4 years primarily in Azure (Data Factory, Synapse, Fabric, Functions, ADLS, Azure Monitor, or comparable).
  • Demonstrated ownership of a production data platform.
  • Strong SQL experience, including query tuning, execution plans, indexing strategy, incremental models, and data-quality validation.
  • Production-level C# and/or Python experience for custom connector work.
  • Solid experience with messy commerce/ERP APIs, ideally Amazon SP-API, NetSuite, or similar.
  • IaC and CI/CD discipline (Bicep, Terraform, or ARM) with dev/staging/prod separation, peer review, and rollback planning.
  • Demonstrated on-call experience, including owning production incidents and writing runbooks.
  • Experience partnering directly with a technical executive in a flat structure, surfacing risks early, and owning a domain.

  • Experience with clean SaaS APIs.
  • Experience in a mature team with multiple data engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Audit existing data sources to identify what is flowing, what is broken, and what is missing.
  • Replace manual CSV-based Klaviyo ingestion with a direct API pipeline.
  • Set up production pipelines for Amazon SP-API, Shopify, and NetSuite with proper monitoring.
  • Establish infrastructure-as-code practices and a CI/CD pipeline.
  • Define the target architecture, including ingestion patterns, orchestration standards, environment separation, data-quality gates, and deployment workflows.
  • Manage data ingestion from various sources including Amazon SP-API, Shopify Admin API, NetSuite SuiteAnalytics Connect, Klaviyo, Recharge, YouTube, GA4 (BigQuery export), Google Search Console, Google Ads, Meta Ads, Triple Whale, and approximately 15 other sources.
  • Oversee data orchestration, ensuring timely data availability for financial reconciliation and managing API quotas.
  • Ensure data reliability through health checks, schema validation, freshness SLAs, source reconciliation, and data-quality gates.
  • Optimize for cost and performance, including partitioning, query tuning, and incremental processing for large datasets.
  • Implement data contracts to ensure data integrity and alert on violations.
  • Own production incidents, including on-call responsibilities and creating runbooks.
