The Digital & Technology Solutions (DTS) group under the leadership of the Chief Information Officer was established in 2023 with the mission of empowering our customers and colleagues to take on the world, by seamlessly delivering secure and reliable digital experiences. Digital & Technology Solutions has set out to achieve the following objectives for EDC: Define, execute, and sustain the integrated technology target state, target data model and technology operations required to enable EDC’s 2030 business transformation. Establish and manage the rolling 3 Year Digital Roadmap that sequences the technology outcomes required to achieve the technology target state and facilitate its execution across all domains in the organization. Keep pace with industry trends and emerging technologies, ensuring EDC has access to the digital technology tools it needs to stay relevant in the market and grow Canadian global trade. Lead and ensure integrated digital, data, infrastructure, and cybersecurity implementations to create excellent customer, user, and employee experiences. As EDC aims to be the leader in helping all Canadian exporters go, grow and succeed internationally, the Enterprise Data Operations & Technology (EDOT) group in EDC continues to play a crucial role in enabling leaders to make better data driven decisions by providing data, data technologies and tools to holistically support business reporting and advanced analytics for actionable insights. EDOT’s Data Solutions Ops team continues to strengthen the organization’s core Data ecosystem leveraging the enterprise data platform as a primary source of secure, trusted and accessible data. The team ensures consistent data delivery with the Enterprise Data Platform (EDP) through robust pipeline management and advanced data integration, monitoring, and alerting practices. The Senior Data Analyst works closely with business stakeholders to understand data needs, analyze business and transformation rules, and translate requirements into well‑defined data solutions and products. The role is fundamental to the design of new data products and supports integration streams and the enhancement of existing data pipelines. As a key member of an Agile team, the Senior Data Analyst collaborates across the full product lifecycle with technical teams and internal partners to deliver data capabilities that enable business outcomes. The role involves evaluating data processes and information flows and applying appropriate analytical tools and techniques to deliver high‑quality solutions. This position requires strong digital and analytical skills, proficiency in navigating scripts and code, the ability to quickly learn new technologies, adaptability in a fast‑changing environment, solid IT knowledge, and excellent communication, collaboration, and relationship‑management skills.

Requirements

  • Education: Completed an Undergraduate Degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science or Engineering, Commerce, Business, or related field.
  • Years of Experience: Minimum of 7+ years as a dedicated Data Analyst, with deep experience in understanding and writing SQL scripts.
  • Well-rounded experience in the whole data lifecycle management and hands-on experience in the following data management domains: dimensional and relational data modeling, data quality, SQL programming, ETL development, metadata management and master data management.
  • Experience with reverse engineering existing ETL and code to gain data insights.
  • Ability to produce ETL specification based on the physical data model.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate with both business and technical audiences.
  • Strong listening skills and story-telling skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Azure Data Platform technologies.
  • Experience with Databricks.
  • Experience with data modeling technologies such as Erwin.
  • Knowledge of Spark SQL.
  • Programming experience: Python, Scala.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, critical thinking, time management, priority planning and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong relationship management skills, including facilitating group sessions and displaying leadership within a project team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Project Management experience - Agile delivery experience.

Responsibilities

  • Understanding client requirements and translating them into technical terms and user stories.
  • Designing and developing data products using script and code that address these requirements
  • Collaborating with Agile teams consisting of Data Architects and Data Engineers to develop solution approaches.
  • Researching and documenting data platform artifacts, including source-to-target mappings, business rules for data transformation, diagramming, data cataloging, and data lineage.
  • Analyzing system data elements and existing data structures, understanding data lineage from source to target, and ensuring efficient data flow between users and stakeholders.
  • Reviewing and recommending conceptual, logical, and physical data models to determine compatibility and fit with architectural principles and optimal solution design.
  • Utilizing end-to-end data process knowledge to analyze, cleanse, and enrich data elements, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Collecting, organizing, analyzing, and disseminating information with attention to detail and accuracy, and deconstructing complex technical solutions for non-technical audiences.
  • Presenting complex issues to stakeholders using persuasion, influence, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills, and leading sessions to review data requirements and achieve consensus.
  • Delivering clear and usable documentation that supports the sign-off process and is serviceable for technical project members.
  • participating in sprint-based activities such as Sprint Reviews, Retrospectives, and backlog refinements.
