The NYC Department of Finance (DOF) is responsible for administering the tax revenue laws of the city fairly, efficiently, and transparently. The Tax Policy & Data Analytics Division reviews, analyzes, and evaluates policies and legislation affecting the Department of Finance and New York City. This includes analyzing revenue and distributional impacts, monitoring tax and parking revenues, promoting improved tax administration, and advising on revenue and budgetary issues. The division also handles modeling and data mining for DOF’s Audit Division and prepares reports and analyses on tax policy. The Tax Policy’s Property Tax Analysis Unit is seeking two individuals with strong quantitative economic and fiscal research skills to assist with complex policy impact analysis, report production, internal system data quality control, and ad-hoc projects related to New York City properties and owners. The ideal candidates will leverage DOF data and research skills to identify specific populations for project goals, such as confirming owner compliance with property tax benefits or determining liability for certain charges. This involves creating datasets for official notices and tracking responses. Reporting to the Executive Director of Property Tax Research & Analytics, the selected candidates will perform a variety of duties.
