About The Position

The Senior Cyber Security Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing robust network and cybersecurity solutions that align with customer requirements, regulatory standards, and Department of Defense (DoD) objectives. This includes applying the Risk Management Framework (RMF) to assess, select, and continuously monitor security controls; ensuring full integration of cybersecurity measures to achieve critical DoD authorizations such as ATC, ATO, and ATT. The position oversees formal Security Test and Evaluation (ST&E) activities, conducts comprehensive security assessments, and communicates risk mitigation strategies in business terms. Additional duties involve architecting and deploying network solutions in line with NIST, DISA STIGs, and Zero Trust principles; installing and configuring network equipment; managing vendors and procurement processes; and optimizing network performance, availability, and security through best practices and continuous monitoring.

Requirements

  • Hold an accredited bachelor's degree in network, cybersecurity, computer science, software engineering, or other related engineering degrees with a cumulative GPA of over 3.2 and with a minimum of 5 years of experience in cybersecurity.
  • Hold an accredited master's degree in network, , cybersecurity, computer science, software engineering, or other related engineering degrees with a cumulative GPA of over 3.2 and with a minimum of 3 years of experience in cybersecurity.
  • 10 or more years in network engineering/administration with relevant certifications.
  • Strong expertise in Risk Management Framework (RMF) processes, including security categorization, control selection, implementation, assessment, and continuous monitoring.
  • Ability to translate NIST, DoD, CNSSI, and NSTSSM cybersecurity regulations into system and product-level requirements.
  • Skilled in working with NIST 800-53, CNSSI 1253 security controls, and DISA STIG security hardening standards.
  • Proficient in designing and architecting secure network solutions, including Zero Trust Architecture principles and DoD-compliant network designs.
  • Ability to evaluate system architectures and define hardware and infrastructure requirements from a systems engineering and networking perspective.
  • Experience integrating cybersecurity controls to meet ATC, ATO, and ATT requirements for DoD Authorizing Officials.
  • Strong capability in conducting Security Test & Evaluation (ST&E) activities, including planning, testing, analysis, and documentation.
  • Ability to perform threat and vulnerability assessments, communicate risks, and recommend balanced, risk-informed mitigation strategies.
  • Hands-on experience installing, configuring, and supporting routers, switches, firewalls, proxy servers, WAN accelerators, DNS, DHCP, and related network equipment.
  • Proficient in configuring routing, switching, segmentation, micro segmentation, and least privilege network designs.
  • Skilled in optimizing and modernizing network infrastructure to improve performance, resiliency, and security.
  • Strong analytical skills for planning, evaluating technical alternatives, and assessing new technologies.
  • Experience producing technical reports, engineering recommendations, and decision support analyses.
  • Ability to mentor junior engineers and lead small-scale technical tasks, including supporting cost, schedule, and scope estimation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to follow complex technical guidance and work independently or within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Familiarity with vulnerability assessment tools such as Nessus/Tenable and NMAP, and a strong understanding of system and network security.
  • Strong general engineering foundation, including basic electrical, mechanical, optical, and software engineering principles.
  • Proficiency in technical writing, documentation, and developing cybersecurity engineering artifacts.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to cybersecurity risk mitigation activities using the Risk Management Framework (RMF), including security categorization, control selection, implementation, assessment, and continuous monitoring.
  • Design and architect network and cybersecurity solutions that align with customer requirements, system constraints, regulatory obligations, and mission objectives.
  • Ensure cybersecurity controls are fully integrated into system designs to meet platform security objectives and Department of Defense (DoD) Authorizing Official requirements, including Authority to Connect (ATC), Authority to Operate (ATO), and Authority to Test (ATT).
  • Participate in formal Security Test and Evaluation activities, including test planning, execution, results analysis, and preparation of required documentation.
  • Conduct system and product security assessments, communicate risks in business terms, and recommend balanced, risk-informed mitigation strategies.
  • Design, architect, and implement new network solutions following industry standards such as National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) guidelines, Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), and Zero Trust Architecture principles.
  • Install, configure, and support network equipment, including routers, proxy servers, switches, wide area network (WAN) accelerators, Domain Name System (DNS) services, and Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) services.
  • Procure network equipment and manage subcontractors and vendors during deployment activities.
  • Configure firewalls, routing, and switching in alignment with industry best practices, including network segmentation, micro segmentation, and least privilege design.
  • Maximize network performance, availability, and security through continuous monitoring, capacity planning, and root cause troubleshooting.
