About The Position

The primary function of this role is to provide technical customs expertise to the Canadian organization and clients in a professional and timely manner ensuring outstanding client services are provided.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary Education or related field or Equivalent qualification
  • Certified Customs Specialist (CCS)
  • 5- 10 years of freight forwarding and/or customs brokerage experience
  • Good command, both verbal and written, English skills.
  • Ability to create collaborative engagements and active listening
  • Service oriented and able to resolve customer grievances
  • Strong interpersonal skills, building professional relationships internally and externally
  • Strong problem-solving skills and analytical skills
  • Ability to multi-task, plan, prioritize and manage time effectively to meet goals and achieve results

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a diverse multicultural environment.
  • Strong Knowledge of the Customs Tariff and Customs Act
  • Strong Knowledge of CBSA requirements for processing Customs entries
  • Strong Knowledge of CBSA HS Classification, valuation, and origin regulations
  • Strong Knowledge of CBSA CAD and K32 regulations
  • Act as a role model for DSV values and adhere to the Code of Conduct
  • English is the principal language for this position, additional languages may be required in other locations.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating activities, operational, rating, and technical, to ensure that shipments are classified and rated properly, and cleared in a timely manner
  • Handling CAD and Mass Adjustments, processing and presenting to Customs in a timely manner.
  • Processing duty drawback claims
  • Updating client customs profiles when changes are made by way of audits, DAS, or other means
  • Management of all Free Trade certificates and ensuring clients are aware of their liabilities / responsibilities to provide properly completed certificates
  • Consulting with clients and non-clients, in conjunction with other managers / salespeople on all aspects of customs laws and regulations, present, new, or proposed, including providing advice and representation on appeals and ruling requests with CBSA
  • Assisting with customs technical and operational inquiries from team members, and other departments
  • Studying & obtaining comprehensive knowledge of DSV customs system, both operational & IT based to provide guidance to Raters and operational team members, when required
  • Supports organizational commitment to ISO 9001, ISO 45001 certification – Montreal location
  • Perform assigned tasks to support DSV meets its objectives and targets regarding quality, health, safety and environment and follow all requirements as set out in the DSV Quality Health Safety Environment policy.
  • Staff are required to ensure that their day-to-day activities embrace sustainability, Health and safety therefore reducing the impact upon the environment, supporting the communities we work in and reducing incidents in the workplace.
