About The Position

A Senior Credit Officer is responsible for leading the credit management process for a designated cohort of commercial loan officers. This includes credit screening, underwriting and evaluation of new loans, as well as monitoring of the existing portfolio including ensuring risk rating accuracy and completion of annual reviews and renewals. This individual is a key participant on the Bank’s loan approval committee. A Senior Credit Officer will also advise senior management on appropriate credit risk appetite based on market data, including a general macroeconomic outlook and banking sector-specific risks. Depending upon Bank needs and Senior Credit Officer experience, this individual may be responsible for other areas of Credit Administration and may supervise other Credit Administration staff.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 + years related experience in credit administration, analysis and risk mitigation with credit approval and supervisory experience and expertise in C&I, Commercial Real Estate, Construction, and loan portfolio management.
  • Thorough comprehension of credit risk management, credit administration, and loan underwriting.
  • Ability to effectively interact with customers, employees, regulators, and outside third parties.
  • An overall understanding of bank management and operations, to enhance cross-functional achievement of goals.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of and comfort with technology as both an emerging delivery channel and a communications tool, this includes an understanding of data analytics, credit & risk scoring models as relating to the credit process innovation.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Proficient reading, writing, grammar, and mathematics skills; proficient interpersonal relations and communicative skills; a working knowledge of all loans, principles, policies, and practices; a thorough knowledge of financial statement analysis; knowledge of current lending and collection laws and regulations; demonstrated management and supervisory skills; ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach with hands or arms, use hands to manipulate objects, handle or feel, and lift items weighing 20 lbs. or less; visual, auditory and speaking skills; valid driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews credit packages, assists in structuring, and decisions requests for existing borrowers and prospects. Provides recommendations and feedback to the line teams regarding specific loan requests as well as overall portfolio management. Evaluates existing borrower and prospective credit requests within established standards.
  • Approves loans up to assigned lending authority.
  • Provides coaching, mentoring, and training to portfolio managers and credit analysts throughout the credit approval process. Assists senior management in the evaluation of the line personnel and helps to identify training needs.
  • Contributes to the development and maintenance of Mid Penn Bank’s credit culture.
  • Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Ensures that analyses accurately present credit risks, policy exceptions, regulatory compliance, and appropriate risk rating.
  • Ensures all asset quality objectives are met and processes and procedures are in compliance with the company’s policies, practices, and regulatory requirements. Communicates results and any potential issues to both line and credit leadership.
  • Helps manage existing portfolio relationships within established risk parameters and servicing requirements including monitoring loan officer completion of annual reviews and renewals.
  • Participates in internal loan review, audit, and regulator examinations, and reporting of asset quality indicators to top management.
  • Responds to inquiries relating to his/her particular area, or to requests from other personnel, customers, etc., within given time frames and within established policy.
  • Communicates with management and staff personnel in order to integrate goals and activities.
  • Coordinates specific work tasks with other personnel within the department as well as with other departments in order to ensure the smooth and efficient flow of information.
  • Allocates division resources, e.g., human, financial, etc., toward tasks required to achieve goals and objectives.
  • Directs, through appropriate management and supervisory personnel, day-to-day activities in support of the divisional objectives.
  • Measures effectiveness and performance of the systems and people.
  • Assists in the development of the annual budget and adheres to budget parameters.
