Position Summary: A senior credit officer has overall responsibility for credit risk oversight, underwriting leadership, portfolio quality, and policy governance, ensuring safe and sound growth aligned with the Bank's strategic objectives.

Requirements

  • Possesses an in-depth understanding of commercial and commercial real estate credit.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles including an understanding of consumer and commercial cash flows.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to analyze financial statements and other credit related data and to perform credit analyses Including the Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as interest, financial ratios and percentages.
  • Ability to write clear, complete, and concise credit memorandums that summarize the completed analysis, include relevant risks and recommend actions to be taken.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to clients, , other bankers, and management of the organization.
  • Familiarity with laws and regulations in consumer and commercial lending.

  • At a minimum, should have ten years of banking, credit underwriting, and/or accounting experience.
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college in a Business Administration discipline.

Nice To Haves

  • 15 years of banking, credit underwriting, and/or accounting experience.
  • Demonstrated an ability to identify credit risks through an analysis of financial statements and other related business and industry information.
  • History of individual credit approval authority
  • A familiarity with the Chattanooga MSA business and/or privately wealthy individual markets.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to and uphold a safe and sound credit culture within assigned market
  • Directs the examination of credit analysis before granting and/or recommending loan approvals or loan commitments to ensure its adequacy and completeness.
  • Personally, and in participation with others, approves or rejects the most complex or sizable loans or loan commitments, where difficult questions of policy or credit risk may be involved.
  • Serves as an advocate for loan opportunities when presenting for approval
  • Establishes, implements and manages administrative and review systems and procedures to protect the quality and profitability of the loan portfolio.
  • Proactively identifies potential problem credits and works with loan workout specialists to restructure the credit and/or minimize losses.
  • Provides for the training, development, and coordination of credit underwriters.
  • Provides support for relationship managers in sales efforts.
  • Advises credit and loan personnel on the bank's overall lending policy, noting significant trends and recommending policy changes where needed.
  • Prepares key portfolio reporting information for assigned market for management reporting as needed
  • Participates with Chief Credit Officer in the development and maintenance of Bank's credit policy.
  • Participates with Compliance Officer in the development and maintenance of compliance policies.
  • Creates and maintains underwriting forms, tools and processes.
  • In depth knowledge of the bank's credit and loan administration policy and identifies exceptions to the policy within any current and potential loans.
  • Review property appraisals in conjunction with reviewing loan risks.
  • Visits clients and properties to evaluate potential loans.
  • Assists in preparing and negotiating loan documentation
  • Approves consumer, private banking and commercial loan applications within assigned authority.
  • Assists Relationship Managers with portfolio management functions such as: Obtaining, reviewing and reporting on updated financial statements from borrowers. Pro-actively calculate and monitor portfolio loan covenants. Conduct annual reviews.
  • Directly supervises a credit underwriting team. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include interviewing, recommending candidates to be hired, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; recommending promotional changes, pay changes and terminations for poor performance .
