About The Position

This role serves as a senior legal advisor to our credit card business. You will support commercial contracting requirements, manage vendor arrangements, and advise on all aspects of privacy, data governance, and information protection. Reporting to the Director, Assistant General Counsel, you will manage a broad range of responsibilities. You will partner with business teams and stakeholders to provide practical, timely, and solutions-oriented advice. This senior role offers significant exposure to leadership, requiring a pragmatic approach to innovation and risk management. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated self-starter with extensive credit card experience who excels under minimal supervision.

Requirements

  • A law degree (LLB or JD) from an accredited law school and license to practice in Ontario.
  • 10+ years of relevant credit card experience in order to be able to execute on the responsibilities set out above, gained within the financial service industry whether in private practice, in-house, or government.
  • Deep expertise in commercial contracting and significant experience in advising on privacy and data protection legislation and regulations.
  • Strong legal research ability.
  • Fluency translating legal advice into actionable guidance for business teams.

Responsibilities

  • Support Capital One (Canada Branch)’s business as a federally regulated bank, by providing timely legal advice in relation to its credit card business.
  • Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements including vendor contracts compliance with OSFI B10 Guidelines.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on privacy and data protection, providing day-to-day implementation guidance and maintaining current knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations.
  • Conduct legal research and translate legal advice into practical, and actionable, business terms.
  • Advise on new and upcoming legislation, and regulatory expectations relevant to the Canada Business.
  • Develop legal guidance and other tools to support business partners that operate in complex legal spaces.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to address special projects, such as implementation of legislation and risk management.
  • Perform other responsibilities as requested.
