About The Position

Tyson & Mendes is seeking an experienced insurance defense attorney for its growing New Jersey office. The role involves handling complex, high-exposure matters including multimillion dollar losses, professional liability, medical malpractice, catastrophic personal injury, wrongful death, and other significant civil defense litigation. The firm offers a practice with meaningful autonomy, access to engaged leadership, and sophisticated work without overwhelming file volume. Attorneys will have the opportunity to practice law strategically rather than just process files. The New Jersey office is led by Danielle DeGeorgio, who fosters a collaborative environment with trust and professionalism, providing guidance and support without micromanagement. The firm is focused on building a stable, experienced, and collaborative local team in New Jersey. Tyson & Mendes invests in modern tools for complex litigation, including AI-enabled legal resources, advanced research technology, and modern case management systems, alongside their APEX methodology and Trial Academy. Requirements

JD from an ABA approved school
Must be licensed in your state
8+ years of solid litigation experience, specifically with litigation support, deposition and trial preparation
Ability to manage full case handling responsibilities, including all facets of discovery and trial
Experience handling insurance defense matters preferred
Experience with time management systems
Proficiency in MS Suite, specifically Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
Ability to think and act independently and with minimal supervision
Outstanding listening, verbal and written communication skills
Professional appearance and demeanor
Active New Jersey Bar license required
At least five years of substantive insurance defense experience in New Jersey
Knowledge of New Jersey litigation, courts, clients, and carriers
Comfort with discovery, depositions, experts, substantive motion practice, client and carrier communication, mediation, and trial preparation

Responsibilities

Develop a case theme that is more compelling than any plaintiff ploy for sympathy or anger
Refuse to accept mediocrity, the average, the standard or the norm in anything
Independently handle court appearances, depositions, briefs and trials
Work as part of a team with all levels of experiences
Routine communications with clients
Cultivate relationships with the firm’s existing and future clients
Provide leadership and direction with respect to less experienced attorneys

Benefits

Base salary range: $150,000-$200,000 annually
Annual billable hours bonus ranging from $10,000 and then aggregating with $7,500 for every additional tier
