About The Position

We are looking for an energetic and self-starting Senior Counsel to join our legal team at Motional. You will be part of a collaborative, high-performing and innovative legal team, working on projects that are extremely high profile and changing the future of mobility. You must be a team player and capable of working independently in a fast-paced environment. To be successful in this role, you will need to be proactive, curious, and able to communicate effectively with all levels and functions of the organization. In this role, you will provide legal support to various business stakeholders on a variety of cutting-edge legal issues. You will work cross-functionally with Motional’s Operations, Commercial, Human Resources and Engineering teams to drive our corporate operations and commercial transactions, while also developing strategic business relationships with partners. This role reports directly to Motional’s Head of Legal and requires five days onsite each week at our Las Vegas office.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school; active bar member in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • 6- 10+ years of legal practice, combining training at a top-tier law firm with significant and broad in-house corporate experience.
  • Proven track record as a trusted legal partner navigating commercial contracting, in-depth knowledge of U.S. and international privacy frameworks, and relevant experience with litigation, dispute resolution and employment matters.
  • Strong business acumen, ability to learn the business quickly, pragmatic risk-assessment capabilities, exceptional negotiation skills, and the ability to prioritize competing projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CIPP/US, CIPP/E).
  • Willingness to work across time zones (offices across the USA and Singapore)
  • Comfortable with an estimated 10% travel

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AI/ML, autonomous vehicles, vehicle fleets, or on-demand mobility or delivery platforms is highly preferred.
  • Experience with transportation regulators (NHTSA, DOT, NTA) is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead reviews, and negotiations on a wide range of complex corporate agreements, including customer, partner, strategic alliance, and non-disclosure agreements.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on privacy regulations (CCPA/CPRA and similar state privacy laws); maintain and improve upon data protection policies, review data processing addendums (DPAs), and conduct risk assessments for new product features.
  • Manage general corporate governance and continuously refine standardized legal templates and playbooks to scale business operations and enhance efficiency across business units.
  • Manage vehicle incident claims and handle related litigation or dispute resolution. Mitigate liability exposure and safeguard corporate assets.
  • Handle EEOC, workers’ compensation, or general employment issues and related litigation or dispute resolution.
  • Partner directly with Operations, Commercial, and Engineering teams to proactively identify legal risks early and transforming processes to deliver practical, solutions-oriented guidance.
