About The Position

Tyson & Mendes is seeking an experienced Senior Counsel with 8+ years of insurance defense experience to join our Philadelphia office. This is an opportunity for a seasoned attorney who wants the best of both worlds: the autonomy to run their cases and make decisions, with access to highly experienced trial attorneys when they want collaboration, strategy, or another perspective. Our Philadelphia attorneys handle a broad range of complex civil defense matters, including general and premises liability, commercial motor vehicle and trucking litigation, medical and professional liability, products liability, construction litigation, employment matters, insurance coverage and bad faith, commercial litigation, and wrongful death and other high-exposure matters. Senior Counsel attorneys have the opportunity to own their matters, develop strategy, take and defend depositions, work with experts, handle substantive motions and mediations, communicate directly with clients and carriers, and prepare cases for trial. Requirements

  • JD from an ABA approved school
  • Must be licensed in your state
  • 8+ years of solid litigation experience, specifically with litigation support, deposition and trial preparation
  • Ability to manage full case handling responsibilities, including all facets of discovery and trial
  • Experience handling insurance defense matters preferred
  • Experience with time management systems
  • Proficiency in MS Suite, specifically Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Ability to think and act independently and with minimal supervision
  • Outstanding listening, verbal and written communication skills
  • Professional appearance and demeanor

Nice To Haves

  • Pennsylvania and New Jersey dual admission strongly preferred
  • Trial experience strongly preferred
  • Experience with general liability, premises liability, trucking/commercial auto, professional liability, construction, medical malpractice, or similar defense matters
  • Strong client and carrier relationships and communication skills
  • Prior billing experience
  • Ability to independently develop strategy and move matters forward
  • Collaborative, responsive, and willing to be part of a team

  • Develop a case theme that is more compelling than any plaintiff ploy for sympathy or anger
  • Refuse to accept mediocrity, the average, the standard or the norm in anything
  • Independently handle court appearances, depositions, briefs and trials
  • Work as part of a team with all levels of experiences
  • Routine communications with clients
  • Cultivate relationships with the firm’s existing and future clients
  • Provide leadership and direction with respect to less experienced attorneys

Benefits

  • Base salary ranging from $150,000-200,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications
  • Annual billable hours bonus ranging from $10,000 and then aggregating with $7,500 for every additional tier
