About The Position

Mastercard is seeking an experienced privacy lawyer to support its digital assets ecosystem, focusing on privacy and data protection. This role will cover the integration and operation of BVNK, as well as initiatives related to digital assets, blockchain, crypto payments, stablecoins, fraud, cross-border payments, embedded finance, and emerging payment solutions. The position requires close collaboration with various Mastercard and BVNK teams, including Product, Compliance, Regulatory, Security, and Legal, to ensure compliant product development, integration readiness, and ongoing business support. The ideal candidate will possess strategic and tactical thinking abilities, a practical and curious mindset, and the capacity to provide hands-on privacy advice in a dynamic technological and regulatory landscape.

Requirements

Law degree required.
Membership to a Bar (if permitted by law).
Solid expertise in and track record dealing with privacy law.
Ability to gain rapid familiarity with complex products, services, and legal frameworks, and to apply privacy requirements in a practical, business-oriented way.
Superior time management, planning, and organizational skills.
Strong analytical, writing, and speaking skills.
Attention to detail is a must.
Exceptional interpersonal skills with proven experience in relationship building and partnering.
Must work well in both team and individual settings.
Ability to motivate and influence highly skilled professionals to achieve major organizational goals.
Strong business acumen.
Fluent English.

Nice To Haves

Any additional qualifications (e.g. Master of Laws degree) considered an asset.
Experience advising on privacy or data protection issues involving financial services, fintech, digital asset products, stablecoins or other digital currencies, and the use of public and private blockchains is preferred.
Experience advising on U.S. privacy, financial privacy, or data security requirements, including GLBA, is preferred.
Familiarity with financial services industry and payment processing.

Responsibilities

Analyze payment, digital asset, blockchain, stablecoin, fraud, and related technology solutions in light of privacy and data protection requirements to identify process and infrastructure needs for global compliance.
Provide day-to-day privacy and data protection law support to business teams working on digital assets, crypto payments, stablecoins, fraud, cross-border payments, and emerging payment initiatives.
Support the integration and operation of BVNK and related businesses by addressing privacy compliance needs, control requirements, and remediation.
Assist in the development and implementation of U.S. privacy compliance measures, including GLBA and the DOJ Data Security Program.
Conduct training and other initiatives to raise awareness among business clients and legal teams about privacy and cybersecurity related to emerging payment technologies.
Monitor regulatory and legislative developments in areas like crypto payments, blockchain, and embedded finance, and support engagement with policymakers.
Develop contract structures and negotiate privacy language in agreements with vendors, customers, and partners.
Identify opportunities to enhance privacy processes, controls, and governance for emerging payment and digital asset products to balance speed to market with compliance.
