About The Position

BTY is seeking a Senior Cost Consultant to join their Victoria team. This role is part of the Cost Management team, which delivers expert cost planning, estimating, and change management across the full development cycle for various project types. The team provides data-driven insights on constructability, escalation, contingency, cash flow, and life-cycle costs to minimize risk and maximize value, utilizing a robust database of material and labor costs. The Senior Cost Consultant will be responsible for preparing cost estimates, attending site inspections, providing cost management advice to clients, conducting quality assurance on reports, analyzing cost variances, preparing change order reviews, and contributing to proposals. The role also involves coaching junior team members and networking to promote the business and build client relationships.

Requirements

  • 5 to 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience mentoring team members.
  • University Degree or equivalent to any of the following: Architectural Building Technology, Estimating, Quantity Surveying, Finance, Construction Engineering or Project Management.
  • Working towards a relevant professional qualification or professional qualification obtained: PQS and/or MRICS.
  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Cost X, Planswift or relevant estimating software.
  • Advanced knowledge of specialist consultant reports and impact on development proposals.
  • Advanced knowledge of the construction industry - development, contracting, and consultant services.
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills combined with sound judgment and initiative.
  • Responsive to internal and external stakeholder requests.
  • Self-motivated with excellent organizational, communication and report writing skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and ability to work to own initiatives.
  • Demonstrates attention to detail to produce quality work with good time management.
  • Eligible to work in Canada or pursuing a work permit.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare the quantification of materials using BTY’s measurement software to prepare cost estimates in accordance with the CIQS Rules of Measurement, elemental format, and where required, divisional trade format.
  • Prepare estimates of probable costs of materials, labour and equipment for construction projects based on contract bids, quotations, schematic drawings, and specifications.
  • Attend periodic site inspections, as needed to assess the cost-to-complete and work-in-place for construction work.
  • Provide pro-active cost management advise and ensure the Clients understand the content of our reports.
  • Preparation of estimates at various stages of the design process, from conceptual design to pre-tender stage.
  • Conduct quality assurance and quality checks (QA/QC) of cost management reports.
  • Completes assessments and analysis of any cost variances between estimate stages.
  • Preparation of change order review analysis and lifecycle cost estimates.
  • Prepare technical components and fees for proposals.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to junior level team members as designated, including the introduction to site visits.
  • Networks occasionally promoting the business, cross-selling and building new contacts and enhancing client relationships.
