About The Position

The Sr. Cost Accountant position is responsible for providing insight into manufacturing variances, overhead expenses, and inventory. The Sr. Cost Accountant identifies process improvements, cost-saving opportunities, and growth projections. They work closely with engineering, supply chain, and manufacturing personnel to resolve variances and inefficiencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance or similar
  • Three (3) to five (5) years in manufacturing cost accounting experience
  • Proficiency in Excel, experience in manipulating large databases a plus
  • Significant hands-on experience using an integrated ERP system
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing operations, inventory and cost accounting
  • Understanding of U.S. GAAP as it applies to a manufacturing environment is required
  • Strong analytical, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Extraordinary interpersonal skills to work in conjunction with other departments.
  • Must be a team player who also works well independently.
  • Must be able to analyze data, draw conclusions, interpret results, and make recommendations.

Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze standard and actual costs for manufacturing variances and prepare reports
  • Liaise with the production teams on a regular basis, reviewing significant job cost variances for root cause identification, and ultimately counter measure actions
  • Providing financial support for cost improvement projects, tracking and reporting
  • Analyze purchase price variance, preparing reports for Supply Chain with improvement opportunity recommendation
  • Partner with the quoting team, participating in special projects, product cost and profitability analysis, and in the preparation of quote packages as necessary
  • Provide margin analysis reviews on newly introduced products, highlighting actual vs. quoted margin gaps
  • Prepare reports comparing actual vs budgeted operational costs and track any reduction actions
  • Analyze inventory trends and future projections to assist in reducing balance sheet risk
  • Maintain productivity reporting and collaborate with Operations on errors and inefficiencies
  • Work on special projects as required
