About The Position

We are currently seeking a qualified individual for the Senior Manufacturing Cost Accountant position, joining our Nottingham, PA team on-site! The Senior Manufacturing Cost Accountant is responsible for overseeing and analyzing all aspects of manufacturing cost accounting, including standard costing, inventory valuation, variance analysis, and margin improvement and performance. Participate will partner with operations, supply chain and finance leadership driving operational improvement and cost transparency with Herr Foods Inc.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting and at least 5 years of progressive cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment
  • CMA, CPA or MBA (preferred)
  • Strong understanding of standard costing and manufacturing operations
  • Demonstrates intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
  • Understanding of Microsoft Dynamics (D365) or ERP systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of accounting theory, principles, practices and regulations.
  • Understands and adheres to requirements for account reconciliation work papers
  • Demonstrated successful use of technology to improve process efficiency.
  • Proven ability to break down problems into meaningful parts and come to rational and well-thought-out conclusions and communicate them to a diverse audience.

  • Reliable attendance and punctuality are also required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead annual and periodic standard cost rollups and revaluation
  • Maintain and update standard cost for raw materials, labor overhead and finished goods
  • Maintain item master
  • Validate accuracy of BOM (bill of materials) and routings in ERP (D365 – Microsoft)
  • Perform analysis on manufacturing variances (material, labor, overhead, usage rates, mix and yields) and explain key drivers to finance and operational leadership
  • Oversee inventory valuation; Raw, WIP and Finished Goods
  • Monitor inventory accuracy: movement of inventory, physical inventory (PI’s), cycle counts and build out calculations for inventory reserves on shrink and excess & obsolete write offs
  • Support monthly close activities on manufacturing and inventory accounts
  • Perform journal entry, account reconciliations, and analytics on variances
  • Perform cost and margin reporting by product, customer and plant
  • Respond to auditor’s questions
  • Work with Plant leadership supporting Cost reductions and productivity initiatives
  • Collaborate with co-workers and business leaders to leverage knowledge and experience to improve processes, procedures and the work environment to eliminate inefficient and ineffective processes and procedures.
  • Identifies opportunities to enhance internal controls and support regulatory compliance and business planning
  • Performs technical accounting research and analysis and prepares accounting memos that clearly document conclusions on areas that include revenue recognition and other topics.
  • Involved in the development, use, and application of updates to the accounting software, including the maintenance of the module with the most current models, metrics, and data
  • Leads special projects.
  • Providing cost analysis on new product and process changes
  • Maintaining item master & build out of routings, BOM accuracy and labor standards
  • Reviewing plant capital investments
  • Serve as a role model to foster a collaborative, high achieving and supportive environment across all departments and businesses
  • Oversees all aspects of freight shipped via common carrier as it relates to accounting by utilizing the transportation management system (TMS).
  • Works with logistics and outside freight companies for notification of delivered status for FOB: Destination loads for accuracy of sales revenue reporting.
  • Manages tracking of common carrier paid loads for accruals needed at month-end close.
  • Prepares various month-end journal entries related to freight for common carrier loads and Herrs internal fleet. This includes allocation of shipping materials, mileage, loader costs and allocation of freight charges at customer level.
  • Prepares financial analysis of actuals vs budget related to common carrier costs for month-end close.
  • Effectively field questions, discuss accounting issues, explain financial tracking of key projects within a wide range of audiences with varying levels of financial acumen.
  • Continuously improves systems and processes that will scale with the business.
  • Coordinate and prepare auditor requests during the company’s financial statement audits.
  • Professionally communicate and collaborate with a positive and productive disposition in a complex environment with a focus on customer service.
