About The Position

Under the direction of the Plant Controller, the successful candidate will be responsible for cost accounting functions for Elmore, Ohio manufacturing facility. The Senior Cost Accountant will be responsible for various aspects of the month-end closing activities, the annual physical inventory, and the annual operating budget. Additional duties include assisting in both internal and external audits, preparation of assigned month-end account reconciliations, and maintenance of the standard cost system. This position also backs up the cost accounting function for other plants. Key interfaces are with plant management, engineering, quality, technical, EH&S and manufacturing personnel.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
• Minimum of 3 years of accounting or finance experience preferred; Manufacturing or Plant accounting experience preferred.
• Solid understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and ability to accurately apply the principles.
• Proficient at Microsoft Excel, Word and Power Point.
• This position requires access to export-controlled information, therefore only US Persons (e.g. US Citizen, US Permanent Resident) may be considered for this position.
• The selection of the person to be hired for this position is contingent on the candidate having export compliance eligibility for access to U.S. controlled technology which comes under the licensing jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of State, International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the U.S. Department of Commerce, Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
• The candidate selected will have to qualify as either a U.S. citizen, a U.S. National, a lawful permanent resident of the U.S., a Person Admitted into the U.S. as an Asylee or Refugee., a National of a country that is not prohibited from having access to U.S. controlled technology (via a letter of assurance), or a Person to be approved for an export license by the governing agency whose technology comes under its jurisdiction. Please understand that any job offer that requires approval of an export license will be conditional on Materion’s determination that it will be able to obtain an export license in a time frame consistent with Materion’s business requirements.

Nice To Haves

• Manufacturing or Plant accounting experience preferred.
• Experience with SAP is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform month-end closing activities for assigned locations. This includes preparation of journal entries, management reports, and account reconciliations.
• Conduct review and analysis related to production order activity, spending variances, balance sheet accuracy, and the need for accruals.
• Assist in the annual operating budget including preparation of capital spending and depreciation plans and plant cost center spending budgets.
• Assist with the annual physical inventory and audit of cycle counts at assigned locations.
• Maintain compliance with US GAAP and all company accounting policies.
