About The Position

The Senior Cost Accountant is responsible for providing reviews and analysis of project costs and budgets with Division Manager to ensure reasonable presentation in company financials. This role involves determining risk factors, mentoring junior staff, and supporting the development of financial systems and policies. The Senior Cost Accountant will prepare various financial documents, perform internal audits, and assist Project Management in resolving costing issues. Travel to regional offices is required to support operations, conduct month-end reviews, and train staff on finance procedures and systems.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of standard accounting procedures, Company policies and all relevant Federal, State and local requirements.
  • Advanced professional level requiring incumbent to handle a variety of difficult and unique problems.
  • Ability to understand and follow standard operating policies and procedures.
  • Perform duties in a professional manner and appearance.
  • Proficient in using a computer and MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel etc).
  • Oracle preferred.
  • Prioritize and manage multiple tasks and changing priorities.
  • Ability to work under time pressure and adapt to changing requirements with a positive attitude.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, proactive and a team player.
  • Interact effectively and professionally with all levels of employees, both management and staff, vendors, clients and others.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business related.
  • 5+ years of experience in finance or accounting.
  • Combination of education, training, and relevant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide reviews and analysis of project costs and budgets with Division Manager to ensure reasonable presentation in company financials.
  • Determine risk factors and present findings to Finance Management.
  • Mentor and train junior members of the Cost Accounting Department.
  • Review, analyze and prepare company revenue forecasts for distribution to executive management.
  • Support development of current systems and policies/procedures (Oracle PM tools, finance forms, etc).
  • Assist in the development, implementation and/or maintenance of cost accounting systems related to collection and analysis of job costs and/or budgets.
  • Prepare subsidiary accounting and financial documents for divisions including CAC's, backlog, invalid time reports and budgets.
  • Prepare various cost/statistical reports for corporate management as required/requested.
  • Prepare financial data for inclusion in bid proposals, and other similar packages.
  • Perform internal audits.
  • Assist Project Management in resolution of costing issues.
  • Travel to regional offices to support operations, conduct month end reviews, and train operations staff on finance procedures and systems.
