About The Position

The Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health (MEZCOPH) invites applicants to apply to join our team as a Senior Coordinator, CHW Professional Development. This position is part of a the Arizona CHW ASCEND Community Health Worker Preparation and Upskilling Project, part of the Participatory Evaluation and Action Research (PEAR) Center at MEZCOPH. The Senior Coordinator position will ensure that CHWs in rural and tribal areas of Arizona have access to high quality training and continuing educational opportunities by communicating and coordinating information related to training scholarships and travel stipends. Additionally this position will assist in the development of a U of A microcredential for CHWs on participatory research and will help coordinate CHW core competency program approval. CHW ASCEND is funded by the Arizona Department of Health Services with Rural Health Transformation Program Funding. Hybrid Work: The person in this position will have the option for hybrid working arrangements that includes regular travel to Tucson for project and team meetings. The person in this position will be required to travel for trainings, meetings and conferences throughout Arizona for up to 10% of the time. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish is required for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Three years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, planning and coordinating community-based programs designed to meet the needs of target populations.
  • Knowledge of community health workers is preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrated experience with U of A financial systems and working with external partners.
  • Demonstrated experience working with external partners to coordinate community programs.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as liaison between the CHW ASCEND project and Community Health Workers seeking CHW Voluntary Certification scholarships, travel stipends, and continuing education scholarships.
  • Identify and recruit eligible CHWs and troubleshoot barriers to participation.
  • Apply established outreach practices to address varied programmatic challenges.
  • Develop outreach materials, presentations, and communications that support CHW access to stipends and scholarships.
  • Recommend eligibility criteria and program adjustments to project leadership for approval.
  • Plan and implement workflows and systems to ensure the timely distribution of travel stipends and scholarships to Community Health Workers.
  • Review and approve applications against established eligibility criteria, referring exceptions and borderline cases to project leadership.
  • Coordinate with unit finance staff to confirm payments are processed accurately and on schedule.
  • Manage timelines and resources with internal and external partners.
  • Coordinate the CHW Core Competency Training Program Approval process.
  • Develop materials, presentations, and communications for internal and external partners and organizational applicants to support compliance with professional CHW standards and institutional policies.
  • Orient review committee members, coordinate site visits and committee meetings, and provide technical assistance to applicant organizations.
  • Work with project team members to resolve deficiencies in applicant materials.
  • Work with the project team to operationalize a U of A microcredential for CHWs on participatory research.
  • Plan and implement outreach to increase CHW access to the course.
  • Review course materials developed by faculty to confirm alignment with CHW core competencies, applicable U of A microcredential policies and procedures, and accessibility for CHW learners.
  • Analyze participation and completion outcomes and recommend improvements to project leadership.
  • Engage in collaborative efforts with Participatory Evaluation and Action Research (PEAR) Center staff and faculty to cultivate a reflective work environment aligned with the Center's participatory approach.
  • Engage equitably with partners in accordance with the principles of Community-Based Participatory Research.
