About The Position

LogistiQ is a growing conveyor system integrator providing innovative solutions for the retail, e-commerce, and distribution markets. Located in a 750,000 sq. ft. facility in Port Clinton, Ohio, the company fosters a culture of integrity, innovation, accountability, and collaboration. The Senior Controls, Automation & Integration Design Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and support of automation, electrical control, and integration solutions for OEM sortation, conveyor, and material-handling systems. This role involves working from customer order requirements to develop project-specific automation and integration solutions, including control circuitry, program logic, and system interfaces. Engineers in this position often act as Lead Engineers, taking full responsibility for the controls, automation, and integration scope from order release through to startup.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code)
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 79 (Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery)
  • Strong ability to troubleshoot electrical, automation, and integration issues.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical and 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong working knowledge of PLC, HMI, PC-based automation hardware, industrial networks, and system interfaces.
  • Experience with high-speed parcel or package sortation integration.
  • Experience interfacing OEM equipment with WCS/WMS platforms.
  • Familiarity with UL508A panel requirements.
  • Experience with VFDs, servo systems, motion control, and industrial networking.
  • Strong ownership mindset for customer-specific automation and integration solutions.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent engineered-to-order projects.
  • Clear technical communication across engineering, manufacturing, software, and field teams.
  • Effective problem-solving in production, integration, and startup environments.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in engineered-to-order OEM automation, controls, and system integration, preferably in sortation or material-handling systems.

  • SolidWorks preferred for 3D CAD software.

Responsibilities

  • Develop or modify automation, control, and integration solutions for engineered-to-order sortation and material-handling systems.
  • Design project-specific control and integration architectures for high-speed package and parcel sortation, conveyor systems, and integrated material-handling solutions.
  • Interpret customer specifications, interface requirements, and system layouts to deliver fully integrated automation designs.
  • Perform electrical and automation calculations to properly size motors, drives, power distribution, and control components.
  • Develop, modify, and debug PLC, HMI, PC-based, and other automation software tailored to individual customer projects.
  • Implement automation logic for sortation and material handling, including zone control, accumulation, merge, divert, routing logic, and jam detection/recovery/fault handling.
  • Design and implement integration interfaces with Warehouse Control Systems (WCS), Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), and third-party equipment/automation subsystems.
  • Integrate scanners, sensors, motors, VFDs, encoders, motion devices, safety systems, and communication networks.
  • Create order-specific Sequences of Operation, interface control documents, electrical schematics, and control panel layout drawings using CAD software.
  • Develop bills of material (BOMs) and routings to support cost estimating and manufacturing.
  • Prepare owner’s manuals, FAT/SAT procedures, integration test plans, and commissioning documentation.
  • Serve as Lead Engineer for controls, automation, and integration scope on engineered-to-order projects.
  • Coordinate closely with mechanical engineering, manufacturing, project management, software, and field service teams.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior controls and automation engineers.
  • Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of engineered-to-order automation and integration standards.
  • Provide technical support to shop personnel during panel build, wiring, and system assembly.
  • Support factory acceptance testing, system integration testing, and performance validation.
  • Provide field support during installation, commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting of integrated sortation and material-handling systems.
