About The Position

Wunderlich-Malec Engineering (WM) has a Senior Controls Engineer position available in our Asheboro, NC location. This person will interact directly with customers and lead a team in identifying requirements, developing specifications, and implementing/testing/commissioning/qualifying automation solutions. This role requires strong problem-solving ability, well-balanced people skills, an aptitude for business efficiency, and an interest in creating partnerships.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical/Control Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Computer Science.
Greater than 10 years of experience.
In-depth understanding of PLC hardware/software platforms such as Rockwell Automation, Siemens, and Modicon.
In-depth understanding of HMI/SCADA hardware/software platforms such as ICONICS Genesis64, Wonderware ArchestrA System Platform, GE CIMPLICITY, GE iFIX, Rockwell Automation FactoryTalk View, Schneider, and Siemens.
In-depth understanding of DCS hardware/software platforms such as Emerson DeltaV or similar.
Experience in industries such as Life Sciences, Building Automation, Food and Beverage, Oil & Gas, and Mining.
Experience in the design of electrical schematics, including power distribution under 480VAC, control panels, and associated NEC references.
Experience with AutoCAD.
Experience leading a team of engineers/technicians to provide control system solutions.
Experience mentoring less experienced engineers.
Ability to travel up to 25%.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of controller programming languages such as Ladder, Sequential Function Chart, Structured Text, and others.
Knowledge of standard programming languages such as VBA, .NET, and SQL for the development of HMI/SCADA systems.
Experience with industrial networking used to connect control system components and instrumentation.
Professional references, preferably one from each of the following: a subordinate, a peer, and a manager.

Responsibilities

Deliver innovative automation solutions and design standards either self-directedly or as a leader of a team.
Conceptualize, detail, and implement control systems for industrial processes and machinery that meet customer requirements.
Develop a control system architecture, select components, detail schematic diagrams and system documentation.
Program controllers (PLC, DCS, RTU) and process visualization (HMI/SCADA).
Develop databases for archiving/displaying historical system data.
Implement/commission the control system at the client’s facility.
Design, detail, and implement a variety of fiber, wired, and wireless industrial networking systems using industrial protocols (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, etc.).
Develop project execution plans, work breakdown structures and associated budgets.
Prioritize and schedule tasks, order tasks, track and report time, track and report finances.
Identify problems early, manage/resolve conflicts, lead and support a team, and attend project status meetings.
Oversee daily operations and activities of projects up to $1M.
Ensure the overall profitability of the project.
Act as technical lead on projects and guide lower-level engineers and technicians.
Act as Project Manager on smaller projects.
