About The Position

The Senior Controls Engineer manages all controls aspects of existing and new machinery and equipment to meet business plan requirements. This role involves leading efforts in machine code application, troubleshooting controls issues, and developing/implementing new controls systems for new equipment and continuous improvement projects. The position also supports new product introductions, manages PLC/Controls codes, and leads upgrades for PLC controls and operations. Additionally, it includes leading bar code system implementation and maintenance, as well as MES and SQL Server Database implementation and maintenance. The role supports process and machinery capability studies, equipment installations, and validation of new/modified processes. Participation in PFMEA and work instruction reviews, ensuring equipment meets industry electrical standards, and identifying/implementing continuous improvement projects are also key responsibilities. The Senior Controls Engineer will lead controls specification development and review of electrical drawings, support weekend and off-shift work, assist production operators, and travel to equipment integrator sites when required. Maintaining a safe and clean working environment, adhering to regulations and company policies, and performing other duties as assigned are also part of the role. Predictable and reliable attendance is expected.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or controls engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of control engineering experience in a manufacturing facility.
  • Expert working knowledge of PLC, HMI’s, relays, contactors, servos, steppers, low voltage circuits, high voltage circuits, torque drivers, bar code systems, database storage, vision systems, etc.
  • Ability to effectively program the following types of software: Allen Bradley, Ignition, Keyence sensors/cameras, SQL (plus), Fanuc robots, AutoCAD Electric.
  • Experience with quality management systems.
  • Experience with bar code systems.
  • Working knowledge with machine electrical cabinet layout and machine controls.
  • Work as a team player.
  • Experience with TS 16949 and ISO 14001.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Lead efforts regarding the application of machine code throughout the plant.
  • Lead troubleshooting of controls issues on machinery and equipment.
  • Lead development and implementation of new controls system required for new equipment and continuous improvement projects.
  • Support new product introductions (phase-ins/phase-outs) and engineering/revision changes as it impacts controls systems on equipment within the plant.
  • Track and maintain all PLC/Controls codes.
  • Lead efforts to upgrade and improve PLC controls and operations.
  • Lead bar code system implementation and maintenance throughout the plant.
  • Lead MES and SQL Server Database implementation and maintenance of existing and new systems.
  • Support process and machinery capability studies and equipment installations.
  • Support validation of all new and modified processes.
  • Participate when required in PFMEA and work instruction reviews.
  • Ensure that equipment meets all applicable industry electrical standards.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement projects (e.g., cost reduction, efficiency improvement).
  • Lead controls specification development and review of electrical drawings for new machinery and equipment and modifications to existing machinery and equipment.
  • Support weekend work and off-shift work when required.
  • Support the production operator.
  • Travel to equipment integrator sites when required.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
  • Adhere to federal and state regulations.

  • Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
