About The Position

Wunderlich-Malec Engineering (WM) is a 100% employee-owned ESOP and one of the largest and most well-established engineering companies in the United States. This role involves interacting directly with customers and internal engineers/drafters to identify requirements, develop specifications, and implement/test/commission/qualify electrical solutions. The engineer will research systems, draw up plans for power and control at 480 VAC and below, including instrumentation and control devices. The role requires reviewing and developing system specifications and drawing packages, conducting factory tests, and providing support throughout construction and commissioning. As a Senior Engineer, this position may involve managing a team, ensuring overall quality, developing scope of work and cost estimates during proposal phases, and Project Managing jobs of various sizes. Experience with PLC or DCS programming, HMI/SCADA programming, network design, and/or IT/OT equipment is ideal.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering Technology or equivalent experience is required.
  • 10 years of experience with capabilities in below areas:
  • Preparation of electrical, instrumentation, and PLC control panel specifications for purchase of materials and equipment and/or the solicitations of labor
  • Experience in design of electrical schematics, including power distribution 480VAC and under
  • Experience in the installation, checkout, and commissioning of electrical, instruments, and control systems
  • Knowledge of the NEC and associated national, state and local code requirements; includes hazardous area requirements
  • Familiar with construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, and testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and customer requirements
  • Familiar with construction and installation standards and specifications for use by electrical contractors
  • Document and organize projects according to established procedures using various tools including computer software such as CAD, Excel, and Visual Manufacturing
  • Review of fabricator and external design drawings, documentation and fabrication sequence
  • Provide cost estimates for electrical controls according to established guidelines
  • Monitor status and ensure delivery of project deliverables within budgeted cost and schedule
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills needed.
  • Ability to communicate and work with both team members, subcontractors and clients
  • Professional references, preferably one from each of the following: a subordinate, a peer, and a manager
  • Ability to travel up to 25%

Nice To Haves

  • Interest in progressing to a PE license will be supported.
  • Ideally, the candidate is also interested and experienced with PLC or DCS programming, HMI/SCADA programming, network design, and/or IT/OT equipment.
  • Experience in industries such as Life Sciences, Building Automation, Food and Beverage, Oil & Gas and Mining
  • Experience with PLC programming is preferred
  • Experience with AutoCAD is desired

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for 480 VAC designs and drawings including motor branch circuits, power distribution and transformation, MCC design and specification, and electrical equipment specification
  • Responsible for hazardous area design including Class I Div. 1 and Div. 2 code and design requirements
  • Instrument specification, wiring, troubleshooting, and calibration
  • Develops schematics detailing control system configuration and wiring, and design equipment panel layouts. This effort includes the ability to architect and specify control system designs and give work direction to technicians creating the drawings
  • Knowledge of the NEC and associated national, state, and local code requirements
  • Work at customer sites to perform the system checkout and start-up of electrical, instrumentation, and control systems
  • Develop the final record system documentation and provide system training to the customer
  • Working on electrical and control system integration projects for clients across multiple industries including life sciences
  • Must have a diverse engineering skill set with the ability to work independently.
  • Should be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • May act as Technical Lead or Project Manager.
  • Develops scope of work and cost estimates for the deliverables
  • Develops and executes implementation plans for the project
  • Assigns work to meet overall project deadlines
  • Ensures that all project team members clearly understand the scope of W-M responsibilities and deliver quality output
  • Develop schedules for WM and customer requirements
  • Evaluate progress on projects and details changes
  • Responsible for all purchasing and subcontractor requirements
  • Responsible for the development of costs and proposal of change orders to contract scope
