About The Position

The Knoxville Engineering Office is the engineering hub for the Nuclear, Security, & Environmental business, supporting multiple projects. Projects involve government work throughout various sectors, including DOD and DOE. As a Senior Control Systems Engineer, you will plan and conduct independent work, requiring judgement in the evaluation, selection, application and adaption of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. You will have technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, and coordinating assignments. You must have a strong working knowledge of the principles and practices related to Control Systems Engineering and understand standard engineering work planning, scheduling, and cost estimating. In this role, you will report to an Engineering Supervisor and will interface and coordinate with other Control Systems work groups, other engineering disciplines, other functional departments, business partners and the client in the development of the design. The ideal candidate will have solid experience in control system design and will be capable of developing design documents that incorporate the applicable design. In addition, it will be required that the candidate have excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), and can be the “face” of Bechtel, promoting our leadership, quality, and safety values, to external partners including vendors, construction companies, and other subcontractors. This role will be based in Knoxville, TN, with the potential for periodic business travel to business partner offices, supplier facilities and jobsites, as required. This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and will require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership.

Requirements

  • Requires bachelor's degree in Engineering and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience in lieu of degree
  • Experience with U.S. Navy vessel controls
  • Experience with U.S. Navy vessel communication systems
  • Experience with U.S. Navy vessel procedures
  • Experience with U.S. Navy vessel design standards
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 application suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Access, Visio, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Willingness to travel on business trips (domestic and international) in support of the project
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, planning, and organizational skills
  • Ability to obtain DoD clearance
  • U.S. citizenship

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates, selects, and applies standard Control Systems engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria, using independent judgment in making adaptations and modifications
  • Participates in the design, development and modification of Control Systems' components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs)
  • Selects components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability
  • Originates and checks Control Systems' design deliverables such as P&IDs, logic, control philosophy, specifications, data sheets, material requisitions, misc. databases (e.g., Instrument and I/O lists)
  • Supports physical design of Control Systems' components via 3D model review, preparation of Instrument Installation Details and location drawings
  • Prepare Exterior and Interior Communication System design documents including specifications, materials lists, evaluations, subcontract technical documents and test procedures.
  • Prepare design documents for Interior Communication system including telephones, public address, and alarms.
  • Prepare design documents for Exterior Communication systems including HF, UHF, VHF, SATCOM and IP-based Tactical Data Links.
  • Coordinates work and collaborates with other engineering disciplines
  • Coordinates Control Systems engineering efforts in assigned areas with specialty groups, other engineering disciplines, the client, suppliers, contractors, construction and other functional groups
  • Provides technical assistance to other Control Systems personnel
  • Completes Control Systems documentation and procedures for installation and maintenance​
