About The Position

McNeilus Truck and Manufacturing Inc. is seeking a Senior Controls Systems Engineer to join their advanced technology team, focusing on heavy-duty industrial trucks. This role is responsible for the research, development, verification, validation, testing, and production implementation of advanced vehicle control systems and telematics. The engineer will work on programs including autonomy, active safety, electrification, and advanced connectivity. Key responsibilities include establishing project requirements, developing control system strategies in simulation and on test vehicles, collaborating with internal and external teams, and supporting feasibility studies and proposal development. The role requires strong time management, communication, and critical thinking skills, with a motivation to learn new technologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering and 3+ years of related experience; OR Master’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering and 1+ years of related experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Automotive or heavy-duty vehicle background with vehicle telematics experience.
  • Work experience with automotive or heavy-duty vehicle CAN bus and architecture.
  • Work experience in embedded software development using C/C++, C#, or Python is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for advanced vehicle control systems and telematics research, development, verification and validation, testing, and production implementation.
  • Responsible for working on several advanced technology development programs, including autonomy, active safety, electrification, and advanced connectivity.
  • Establish requirements, including resources, equipment, estimates, test plans, and milestones, according to the needs of a project.
  • Responsible for developing advanced control systems strategies in a virtual simulation environment using modeling tools or bench test vehicle simulators and transferring simulated strategies to vehicle testing and eventual production implementation.
  • Work with internal and external project teams, including vendors, industry consortiums, and universities, on advanced technology development programs under the guidance of a supervisor.
  • Assist with feasibility studies and project estimates, including manpower, budget development, and timelines, for proposed projects.
  • Support proposal development related to acquiring appropriate funding for various advanced technology development efforts.
  • Provide support and insight to engineering design teams.
