About The Position

Wild Alaskan Company is seeking a storyteller to build a long-form video channel that evokes emotion and desire for Alaska. This is a development-first role with a strong understanding of production and management. The position involves extensive research, story development, and a comprehensive understanding of the entire production process from concept to delivery. The role reports to the VP of Creative and Brand and operates in a fast-paced, challenging, and fun fully-remote environment.

Requirements

  • 7+ years in content, documentary, or brand film, with a strong reel demonstrating ability to deliver.
  • Experience reviewing creative data for organic and paid social channels.
  • A body of work including at least one deeply character-driven piece developed by the applicant from concept to delivery.
  • Demonstrated management experience with direct reports, including performance reviews and career growth.
  • Fluency in both outdoor/fishing industry and culinary/food contexts.
  • Real understanding of long-form platform mechanics, such as YouTube, including viewership metrics and launch strategies.
  • Willingness and ability to travel often (approximately 30% of the time, weighted towards summer).
  • Full working knowledge of the production stack: research and development, budgets, crew, camera, audio, post-production, color, sound, and delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Finding and developing stories, including researching leads, pitching them with a clear vision, and assessing their relevance to channel and brand growth.
  • Conducting pre-interviews and in-depth research to understand subjects, their history, and unique perspectives.
  • Setting up production for success by finding the right crew, managing producers, creating scopes, scheduling, directing in the field, guiding the edit, and ensuring timely delivery, adapting to budget constraints.
  • Building and programming a long-form channel (e.g., YouTube) with a focus on series architecture, release cadence, and performance-driven titles/thumbnails, while also distributing content across short-form channels.
  • Managing an Editorial Content Producer and a Social Media Manager, providing clear direction, support, and guidance for their productions, distribution strategies, and presentations.
  • Driving performance-minded creative for both long-form and paid ad video, with a focus on hooks, storytelling, pacing, and brand impact, using performance data to enhance creative output.
  • Creating visually appealing food content that highlights appetite appeal and working with culinary personalities to engage viewers.
  • Protecting the brand by ensuring content authentically celebrates wild-caught fish from Alaska, its origins, and the people involved.
