About The Position

Kearney & Company is seeking a Senior Consultant to join our team supporting one of the Federal government’s largest agencies. This role involves supporting the Department of War (DOW) in areas such as internal controls, financial processes, compilation, and accounting, adhering to GAAP, SFFAS, and relevant Treasury and OMB policies. The Senior Consultant will manage sub-task/project plans, prioritize activities, meet deadlines, and work closely with clients and the Kearney team to provide value-added services and drive improvements. This position serves as the primary client-facing point of contact and requires excellent writing and communication skills for drafting various artifacts like SOPs and whitepapers. Strong customer service skills and the ability to perform under pressure with short deadlines are essential. The role also includes directing and reviewing the work of Consultants and Senior Associates, and communicating project status to the Team Lead and client.

Requirements

  • BA/BS/BBA degree from an accredited college/university
  • One of the following professional certifications: CPA, CISA, CIA, CGFM or CDFM.
  • 9 years of progressive, relevant experience, including six 6 years of experience leading financial management or business systems modernization/sustainment and related projects.
  • Ability to report onsite 3-4 days a week in Alexandria, VA and Washington, DC
  • Ability to travel up to 25%
  • Must have an active Interim Secret Clearance (or higher, such as Secret, Top Secret or TS/SCI) to be considered for this role (requires U.S. citizenship)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with the Federal Government and/or DoW clients
  • Experience in federal/DoW financial statement auditing, audit remediation, and audit readiness
  • Experience with financial reporting processes, financial statement compilation, and federal reporting requirements
  • Experience researching and applying FASAB, OMB, and Treasury requirements including OMB Circular A-136, and/or the Treasury Financial Manual (TFM)
  • Proficient skills in MS Excel
  • Experience with SharePoint, Oracle, ACL Analytics, PowerBI, and/or Access databases

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the Department of War (DOW) internal controls, financial processes and compilation, and/or accounting in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Statements of Federal Financial Accounting Standards (SFFAS), and/or relevant Department of the Treasury and Office of Management and Budget (OMB) policies.
  • Managing sub-task/project plan: prioritize activities, meet established deadlines, work closely with the client and Kearney team, seek out and provide value-added services.
  • Driving improvements to achieve engagement goals.
  • Working closely with the client and Kearney team and serve as the primary client-facing point of contact for Kearney.
  • Demonstrating excellent writing and communication skills as significant time is spent drafting/updating communication artifacts (e.g., Standard Operating Procedures, Desktop Guides, whitepapers).
  • Demonstrating strong customer service skills and the ability to work in occasional high-pressure situations with short deadlines.
  • Directing and reviewing the work of Consultants and Senior Associates.
  • Communicating status of project-related tasks to Team Lead and client.
