About The Position

In FTI Consulting’s Corporate Finance & Restructuring organization, we focus on our clients’ strategic, operational, financial and capital needs by addressing the full spectrum of financial and transactional opportunities faced by corporations, boards, private equity sponsors, creditor constituencies and other stakeholders. With teams based in North America and the United Kingdom, our Tax Services team is situated to advise domestic and multinational businesses on a variety of tax matters ranging from tax transaction support to best practice process implementation and structuring. FTI Consulting provides client-centric tax advisory services focused on mitigating tax risk and minimizing cost. Our senior management team members are leaders in their field, qualified in accounting, tax, law and real estate surveying. Our team also includes valuations and technology experts and economists.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance or related
  • 3+ years of post-graduate combined professional experience
  • Ability to travel to clients and FTI office(s)
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis; the employer will not sponsor applicants for work visas

Nice To Haves

  • MS, JD, and/or CPA
  • 3+ years of state and local tax experience in a national public accounting firm, law firm, or corporate tax department of a multinational company
  • Demonstrated knowledge of state and local tax laws and compliance requirements across multiple tax types relevant to multistate businesses, including income/franchise, sales and use, and property tax filings
  • Experience with tax due diligence
  • Experience with tax research and the ability to analyze and apply rules in a broad range of state and local tax areas and issues
  • Detail-oriented with strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Excel, including the ability to build clear and well-organized workpapers
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines across multiple concurrent engagements in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational skills, self-motivation, and initiative

Responsibilities

  • Review state and local tax returns and workpapers (including income/franchise, sales and use, gross receipts, and property tax returns), financial information, and related deal documents as part of buy-side and sell-side tax due diligence engagements
  • Assess and analyze state and local tax exposures, risks, and opportunities relating to mergers and acquisitions
  • Prepare clear, well-organized and supportable analyses and workpapers
  • Draft written reports/communications summarizing the results of tax due diligence, including recommendations for next steps
  • Support post-closing recommendations and next-step planning based on documents reviewed and due diligence findings
  • Participate in due diligence calls with clients and targets
  • Support state and local tax advisory projects outside of due diligence, including taxability and nexus studies
  • Support assigned workstreams with attention to deadlines, quality, and proactive communication of status and key issues
