About The Position

Technology Infrastructure and Innovation (TI&I) spans multiple areas including Technology, Information Security, Deposit Operations, Loan Operations, Project Management, Data Management Office, Corporate Real Estate, Corporate Security, and Risk & Governance. TI&I focuses on delivering operational excellence, managing the bank's technology and operations, enabling transformation through client focus and innovation, and supporting growth objectives through strategic initiatives. The Governance and Oversight team is a First Line control group within the Three Lines of Defense model, responsible for empowering CIBC’s Control Framework and aligning it with the Risk Appetite Statement (RAS). This group supports the bank's strategy by ensuring effective risk discipline and client experience. The US TI&I Governance & Oversight team specifically enables the bank's mandate for financial strength and risk discipline while fostering a purpose-driven culture. They collaborate with Business Units and Functional Groups to enhance business resiliency and value while managing risk. This includes stewarding processes for assessing internal control effectiveness and strengthening the CIBC Risk Management Framework. As a member of this team, you will support the risk management activities for the Data Management Office (DMO), including control identification, risk assessments, deficiency remediation, procedure writing, process monitoring, and risk outcome reporting. You will also liaise with the second and third lines of defense, gather evidence for exams, and provide subject matter expertise on DMO processes. The role involves exercising independent judgment, providing recommendations for best practices, solving business, operations, and technical problems, and escalating complex issues to management. The role receives general instructions on routine work and requires limited direction.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of Banking experience, specializing in data management and overall risk management.
  • Well-developed project management and strategic business-planning skills with the ability to develop plans/tactics to support strategies & objectives.
  • Experience in interpreting policies and procedures to ensure timeliness and accuracy of processes under review.
  • Working knowledge of potential risks associated to Data Management such as AI, Data Governance, or Data Analytics.
  • Ability to give meaning to data.
  • Ability to investigate complex problems and make sense of information.

Responsibilities

  • Support the risk management activities for the Data Management Office (DMO) team.

  • Leverage risk management solutions expertise to share knowledge by introducing ideas to the organization to continuously maintain an acceptable risk posture aligned with industry peers, regulatory requirements, and CIBC’s risk appetite.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external teams, and different lines of business.
  • Create trusted advisory relationships with all partners across all lines of defense, including Operational Risk Management, Internal Audit, Enterprise counterparts, and control assessment teams.
  • Engage with cross-functional teams across all three lines of defense to foster open communication, value diverse perspectives, ensuring all voices are heard, and contributing to shared success.
  • Build trust within the team, encouraging a supportive environment that enhances creativity and problem-solving.
  • Leverage strong project management skills to proactively manage timelines and keep direct managers and internal clients informed of predicted/preliminary results.
  • Conduct analysis of processes and functional requirements to provide proactive advice and guidance to internal stakeholders to ensure requirements and work packages are appropriately defined and completed.
  • Work closely with line of business (LOB) partners to proactively identify risk exposures and control gaps.
  • Analyze and synthesize risk exposures, operational losses, root causes, and control gaps.
  • Lead the assessment and recommendation of self-assessed deficiencies to mitigate risk exposures and control gaps.
  • Act as the risk and controls Subject Matter Expert (SME), providing expert advice to Line of Business partners.
  • Participate in business, governance, and regulatory projects, typically medium to highly complex initiatives, to identify risk and control issues.
  • Lead all exams (Internal Audits, etc.) for the LOB regarding audit scope review & finalization, requests for information, fieldwork support, and potential deficiency management.
  • Understand and communicate requirements related to data management, including AI and data governance.
  • Translate risk requirements into process and controls.
  • Identify efficiency opportunities within existing processes.
  • Understand and communicate Control Framework requirements to LOB partners to ensure awareness, understanding, and impacts.
  • Lead the completion of CIBC Control Framework requirements, including Risk and Controls Self Assessments (RCSAs) and Key Regulatory Indicators (KRIs).
  • Act as the Maintenance Officer for Operational Process Controls (OPCs), Financial Process Controls (FPCs), and Regulatory Compliance Management (RCM) controls.
  • Develop & present Executive Reporting on the governance & controls environment of the sub LOB.
