The Hartford•Hartford, CT
•$100,000 - $150,000

About The Position

The Global Specialty practice at The Hartford is seeking a Data Steward to join its Data & Analytics value stream. The role partners with an existing Data Steward to support and expand data governance capabilities and Data Modernization work. The Data Steward serves as a custodian of data quality, lineage, and governance practices, collaborating with stakeholders in Data Science & Analytics, Actuarial, Finance, Operations, and other teams to implement a cohesive data strategy. The position combines strategic contribution with hands-on stewardship. It applies functional knowledge to identify and clarify business data needs and represent them through data definitions, governance standards, data quality rules, and metadata across the data lifecycle. The Data Steward performs data analysis, discovery, and profiling to understand data characteristics, validate business meaning and usage, identify data quality concerns, and promote consistency and trust in data. The role develops, maintains, and governs data dictionaries, business glossaries, lineage documentation, and mapping documents. It documents business definitions, data relationships, transformation rules, ownership, and governance expectations. The Data Steward acts as a liaison between business and IT stakeholders, offering guidance on governance, definitions, and standards, and partners with cross-functional teams—including underwriting, operations, data engineering, and architecture—to align on policies, data quality expectations, and domain standards. The role also supports governance tools such as IDMC or similar platforms and the continuous improvement of how data is defined, managed, and consumed. The work arrangement may be hybrid or remote. Employees who live near a listed office location are expected to work in the office Tuesday through Thursday; those who do not live near an office may work remotely and are expected to come into an office as business needs arise. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.
