About The Position

Nexight Group is seeking part-time individuals with experience working in the mining and mineral commodity production industry. Ideal candidates will have senior-level skills in advanced research and development of novel mining, extraction, beneficiation, and mineral processing technologies. Ideal candidates will have senior-level examples of strategic advisory roles in critical minerals supply chains. Candidates should have at a minimum 12 or more years of work experience. Work experience should align with the job duties and responsibilities described. Candidates shall have demonstrated experience working in one or more of the following: mining, mineral processing, extractive metallurgy. Nexight Group is a small technical and management consulting firm that serves a variety of clients, including the Department of Energy. Adaptability, critical thinking, genuine curiosity, and collaboration are all equally important skills to technical experience. Please note, any job offer is contingent on contract award, anticipated approximately July 2026.

Requirements

  • Minimum 12 years of work experience.
  • Demonstrated experience working in one or more of the following: mining, mineral processing, extractive metallurgy.
  • Degree in engineering or mining-related area of study.
  • 12 years of work experience in mining, mineral processing and/or extractive metallurgy operations, or an adjacent field.
  • Technology experience in multiple mining and mineral processing subject areas, including: Resource exploration and characterization, Autonomous mining and extraction, Mine waste management processes, Advanced extraction processes, Recovery of critical minerals and materials (particularly rare earth elements) from diverse feedstocks, Coproduction/by-production and valorization processes.
  • One or more senior-level advisory roles in critical minerals supply chains.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • All applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Requires public trust clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced engineering or technical degree or advanced business degree.
  • Greater than 20 years of professional experience in mining, mineral processing and/or extractive metallurgy operations or an adjacent field.
  • Experience with federally funded RD&D programs.
  • Experience working with DOE program offices at the intersection of government, industry, National Labs, and academia.
  • Knowledge of the Department of Energy’s critical minerals programs and pressing technology challenges in domestic critical mineral and materials supply chains.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and technical support across multiple DOE critical minerals and materials initiatives.
  • Work closely with government clients on strategy and programming.
  • Support collaborative long-term strategy and vision discussions.
  • Identification and justification of high impact commodity and supply chain priorities that align with DOE critical minerals and materials technology initiatives.
  • Support selection of technical focus areas for mining and mineral processing RD&D funding opportunities.
  • Advise on the selection of performance metrics and milestones for mining and mineral processing technology projects.
  • Support performance evaluation of a diverse and evolving portfolio of technology innovation projects.
  • Develop or contribute in review of various communication materials to support senior level updates and succinct messaging for non-experts.

Benefits

  • The salary range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. A reasonable range for this position is $100.00 - $125.00 an hour.
  • A preliminary estimate for level of effort is 10-60 hours per month.
