About The Position

AXA XL is seeking a Senior Underwriter for their Group Captives team, specializing in Construction. This role involves providing unique solutions, significant capacity, and diverse construction experience within the Group Captive marketplace. The team offers Workers Compensation, General Liability, and Automobile coverage for various construction-related entities. The position arises from growth and requires an experienced primary casualty underwriter to tailor solutions for clients, partnering with industry experts. The role involves reviewing submissions, working with agents and brokers, calculating premiums, advising clients, managing relationships, implementing accounts, collaborating with claims and risk engineering, negotiating reinsurance, and working with other underwriters on cross-marketing goals.

Requirements

  • Advanced Construction/Commercial Underwriting Experience.
  • In-depth underwriting expertise as it relates to solutions for construction managers, general contractors, trade contractors, to contribute to the underwriting of the full range of Construction accounts.
  • Work independently with the ability to be an open-minded team player with a willingness to actively listen to comprehend unique circumstances that require practical and unique solutions to complex issues.
  • Outstanding insured and broker interaction with the ability to effectively target current and prospective contacts in order to effectively promote offered products.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to work with both internal teams and external brokers as you will work in a team environment, assisting underwriters and / or deal administrators as part of their overall responsibility.
  • Outstanding organizational, time-management and multi-tasking skills.
  • Outstanding comprehension and work experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Willingness to travel (approximately 25% travel as necessary).

  • advanced education and / or professional designations including but not limited to CPCU, IIA, CRIS preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing submissions including applications, policy wording, inspection reports, loss runs, and financial reports while conducting appropriate research to determine degree of risk for each account.
  • Working with agents and brokers on targeting accounts which are best in class contractors
  • Calculating appropriate risk premiums using various guaranteed cost and loss sensitive options.
  • Proactively advising, assisting, servicing and following up with clients on insurance and risk management matters.
  • Effective relationship management with customers and brokers.
  • Controlling timely implementation of new and renewed accounts according to quality standards.
  • Working closely with claims and risk engineering team to provide value added services to prospects and clients.
  • Negotiating and working on facultative reinsurance transactions as needed
  • Working with the other underwriters in team on cross marketing goals and objectives.
