About The Position

Van Acker Construction (VAC) is seeking an experienced Senior Construction Manager / Superintendent for a high-end, multi-acre residential construction project on the San Francisco Peninsula. This project involves multiple structures and extensive landscape systems, requiring a strong leader to oversee scheduling and coordination. The ideal candidate will be a team player with excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills, capable of bringing diverse teams together. This role requires discretion, diplomacy, and the ability to manage projects up to $80M. Van Acker Construction acts as the General Contractor, holding overall responsibility for all construction phases.

Requirements

  • Minimum twenty years of experience in the construction industry with increasing skills and responsibility.
  • At least ten years of supervisory and scheduling experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or equivalent degree or certificate in construction and engineering, business and administration, or other related classes.
  • Capable of running construction projects with contract values up to $80M.
  • Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office Applications, and scheduling tools.
  • Familiarity with software programs for job costing and estimating is important.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk the site (uneven surfaces and long distances between structures) and otherwise physically perform all duties of the job.
  • Adaptable and able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Decisive and able to work well under pressure, particularly when faced with unexpected occurrences or delays.
  • Able to coordinate multiple activities and teams simultaneously, while analyzing and resolving specific problems.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to establish good working relationships with owners, subcontractors, other site superintendents, design professionals, city officials, and neighbors.
  • Proficiency in diplomatic negotiations and client relations.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, coordinate, and supervise the construction process from conceptual development through final construction, ensuring timeliness, economy, and quality control.
  • Oversee the organization, scheduling, and implementation of the project to execute designs, directing teams to integrate building structure, MEP, and landscape systems.
  • Coordinate and manage people, materials, equipment, budgets, schedules, contracts, and safety of employees and the public.
  • Regularly review engineering and architectural drawings and specifications to monitor progress and ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and building codes.
  • Meet regularly with owners, subcontractors, architects, and other design professionals to monitor and coordinate all phases of the construction project.
  • Interact with city officials and neighbors as needed.
  • Observe job conditions and identify changes and potential problems, particularly concerning safety and regulatory adherence.
